View Full Version : CD-RW writing woes

I've had a problem with burning CD-RW discs. My first trouble happened when I quick erased a memorex 10x cdrw with my plextor 12/10/32A. Trying to write new data to it proved fruitless. The disc was recognized as a CDRW, but after writing the lead in the writing would stop and I'd have to shut down my machine to get back access to the drive. I then tried doing a full erase on the disc but that didn't help.

So I just tried erasing another disc, but right off the bat I used full erase. Unfortunately, I had the same problem. Doing a simulation has given me both "Queuing Failed" and "power calibration" failed.

At first I was using a version of Nero 5.0.x or something older like that, but now I'm using the latest (5.5. something).

Anybody have any ideas of how to fix this? It's really inconvenient to not be able to reuse CDRWs with a CDRW drive.

thanks,
gft

What type of PSU you got/how many watts?

300W antec. I have no trouble writing CDR/RW normaly, so this is very odd.

The rest of my system:
ECS K7S5A
Geforce 2 GTS
Pioneer 6x slot-loader
maxtor and quantum hard drive (1 ea.)
1 GHz Duron
80 mm cpu fan/HS

Have you tried another brand of cdrws? I know Memorex should be good, but one never knows...

That's a good idea. Unfortunately, I think I'd probably have trouble finding another brand of 80 minute CD-RWs in my area. Oh well... CDR discs are so cheap these days...

I just like the idea of CDRW discs for moving volatile files around. They save waste and the trouble of having to buy so many CDRs.

Thanks anyway

i have had the same problem, and i think i can blame it on the cd-r drive rather than any of the media or other issues. i can always full erase cdrw's on the other cdrw drives i have access to , but the crappy velocd (TDK) i inherited just can't seem to do it. i can burn once fine but after that..poop until i take the disks to another drive and erase them. sucks for burning svcds.

p.s. just get a different drive, someone will offer a good brand. tom's hardware guide actually had a good rundown on a couple drives where they explicitly checked them for compatibility.

I just remembered I had this once recently that I erased a CDRW disk with my Plextor 16/10/40 drive with Nero 5.5.
When I wanted to burn it, it said "not enough space" (or something like that). I erased it again, and it worked.

I thought it was maybe the same problem I had had once with an older 5.x version of Nero which said "disk not empty" for ALL CDRs and CDRWs. I had solved this with a fresh install of a newer Nero version.

Before you buy a new cdrw drive, check out other 4in1 drivers (assumed that you have a via chipset) and try other ASPI drivers, that software stuff can cause quite some problems with CD drives.

PLEXTOR is the BEST, why would you want ot buy something else?

I say it maybe time to re-install your Nero or try a new CD RW.
