i'd just vote for the intel compiler ;) since i neither use mod quants or the dshow filter (i use only h.263 and ffdshow), i'd say both nic's and koepi are of the same value for me (although i've been using koepi's 22-5 build for at least 30 film capture).

i use umaniac's only if i need to test the latest features. but it just couldn't be a more bleeding edge than that ;)

it's great that we have all these builds, don't u think?

i would wish though that the download will be a bit smaller since i don't use the help. it's basically the dll and the ax file, right? the inf file istallation was great for me...

cheers again umaniac, nic and koepi. don't stop!

Best build? I've used virtually all builds from all the xvid's binary providers and frankly it depends on what you view as best fit to your needs. Mostly, I use Umaniacs's insta-build to test advancement made with each versions that are being posted in CVS. The changes are very minimal from build to build but it is there, and once in while the changes are huge leap (for better or worst). I am rating the xvid base on my usage (1-pass only).

A question for xvid developers if i may. Does the playback sequence in xvid.ax uses anything in the xvid.dll for decoding? The reason I asked this is because I see a major macro-block reduction when I playback the clips using Umaniac's insta-build version 09.06.2002 13:20. The playback clips are generated by using Koepi's 05.22.2002, Nic's 5.13.2002, Umaniac's latest build, and Umaniac's insta-build 09.06.2002 13:20.

Hi,

I'd really like to take part in this poll - but instead of doing codec tests, I encode movies :D

And don't you think, you should have started a thread discussing the (dis)advantages of the different builds instead of having a poll?

In my opinion a discussion would suit a forum better than unsubstantiated "This is better than that and therefore I use it!" votes that don't give us any arguments or information.

Cheers

Since this an unsubstantiated and useless poll i closed it.
You may discuss (the x'th time) what you prefer and what-not, but I think it's pretty useless since in the forum's FAQ the differences between the builds are listed.

For example, Nic's and my build should be VERY similar - dunno if Nic uses the same optimizations flag as I do so there might be a little speed variance. But since Nic activates EPSZ(^2) as well that's clearly all which is a huge difference.

Koepi
