Hi guyz,

I am a regular user of dvd2svcd, but i've run into sum probs, and I hope one of you can help me out. Sometimes when I rent a movie and start encoding with dvd2svcd somehow the subs cannot be found in the ifo file. And there's my problem. Because of this it will scan all the vob's for subs and finds it in the end. However when encoded to the muxed files it doesnt have any subtitles since it couldnt find it in the ifo file..

So im trying to start from encoding again, but this time with the files for subs adjusted.

Did any of you run into this problem? and if so what did you do to correct?

Thnx.. :D

The problem of the subtitles is the multi angle of the DVD.
Most of the time is the movie angle2 and the subtitles will only ript from ange1.

I having the same problem, SUBTITLES IS NOT WORKING IN DVD2SVCD

@mpegje you have alot of nerve talking to someone that does so much for us. DVD2svcd has helped this community like very few people have. I dont wanna go in to the lists right now but i'm very angry at you talking to him like that. As a matter of fact before dvd2svcd started this venture with making the svcd's and other formats an automatic procedure, i would not even think of making a svcd as it was to much time and work.

I wanna thank you dvd2svcd and the others that come here daily and put up with people like mpegje i know its hard, but as a team we can weed out such filth, and keep this site the best on the net...and yes i'm bragging because this site is the best on the net thanks 2 the users and the doom9 team!

i dont know exactly how dvd2svcd handles this, but menu and film on dvd may have different subtitle streams! its the same problem smartripper 2.41 suffers, because it only check the menu and believes, that the stream constellation stays the same for the film. therefore stream processing of smartripper ist quite useless when using subtitles, but that is another story...

so this 'problem' could imho only be ripping related. hope i am right. ;-)

Damn mpegje... show sum respect for dvd2svcd..He's doing a great job. And I dont believe you could do any better.

Anyways guyz.. I hope this problem can be resolved somehow.. If anyone has an idea that would be great.. Got sum dvd's waiting on my hd.. heheheh..

Edit: I did the ripping with smartripper.. Are the dvd2svcd's internal routines better to use or to solve my problem?

From the official Q&A:
Q48: I have been having sync and other problems with VOB files I have ripped with another ripper, like SmartRipper?
A: Always use the internal routines or the built in Vstrip unless you have no other choice. SmartRipper and other rippers are known to cause issues occasionally with DVD2SVCD.

I have never come across this problem for the last couple of months that I used DVD2SVCD until yesterday. I put in an anime dvd that has a English and Chinese subtitle.

Yet, when the subtitle selection screen comes up, I see Chinese, but no English, it just say "unspecified," selecting it gave me some read address error or something like that.

I'll have look into other ways of ripping the sub.

Try using the "Show Next" Button, and keep using it until you do see the english subs.

I recall being involved in a post regarding a problem that may be related to the one raised here. Do a search on "alien subtitles", which may well be the problem you are looking for. As a side note, in fact there is a problem with the DVD2SVCD interface when you select a subtitle that doesn't yet actually show text. I remember spending some time to figure it out. You get some error message or something. IIRC, you should only select a subtitle, once text shows up in its box. It may require many hits on the "show next" button, if the first subtitle is way into the movie. Perhaps here would be room for improvement: A "show first" button that searches for the first subtitle in the selected field.
