Dear Everyone Smarter Than I...

Noob is at it again.. I was running DVD2SVCD just fine on my box using WinME and just "had" to upgrade to Win2KPro.

Now when I try to run DVD2SVCD I get an error: Auth_Call.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log has been generated.

So I search... I find the post instructing me to download ForceAshi1.7 and I do so. I'm not sure I ran the programs correctly after downloading but I clicked on about everything that was downloaded and rebooted several times. I still get the error statement above.

I search more... I download http:\\lightninguk.dns2go.com's program and still no luck.

If someone would draw a picture for me, I'd be grateful.
I would really like to get the DVD2SVCD working again.

Box is an HP 1.3Gig machine, 60G HD, 640m ram, W2kPro.

I also have PowerDVD Pro XP loaded and DVDs play fine on the box.

Thank you again,
Grasshopper noob..

Hi DT98,

hmm, I never installed ForceASPI - I use the latest Adaptec 4.71 ASPI and never had any troubles with it under Win2k. So you might want to try this.

To see if your ASPI layer is installed properly you can use the aspichk.exe utility that comes with the Adaptec bundle (don't know if it's in the ForceASPI one too) or you can use DVDDecryter and see it's log - it will also show you if the ASPI layer is installed properly (or VCDEasy also).

IIRC Koepi has posted the link to the Adaptec ASPI somewhere in the General Forum - so you might want to do a search - I'm just too lazy atm. ;)

Or wait for someone that knows the ForceASPI installation procedure better than I do. The Adaptec is also a bit tricky but it is explained in the Readme that comes with it.

Hope this helps,
Gerti

OK - It just so happens that I had the EXACT problem just two nights ago. I did a clean install of W2KPro and then dvd2svcd.

You have to run Force ASPI. You do this by running Instaspi.bat (which is in the zip file). After the install you MUST reboot. At this point you can run dvd2svcd with no problem.

Since you say that you ran all the files that were in the zip I can only assume that you ran Instaspi.bat and then ran killaspi.bat.

Good luck

You probably clicked on the install.bat within the .zip or .rar file without extracting them. Sometimes it's pays to save time to read the readme.txt.

Thank you Thank you very much!

Gerti and Bryan,

I just tried Bryan's instructions and I am ripping again!

I searched and think I saw two trains of thought... one to run ForceASPI1.7 and the other to not run it when using W2K.

Anyway,... Bryan, I followed your file description and voila', it's working. I feel I did just what you said, I ran the killaspi.bat last.

Long as I'm typing here.. a little background..
I have two computers that I picked up rather cheap. The first one is an HP 7867 P3 1G 512 ram and the other is an HP 9870 P4 1.3G, 640 ram. Both machines came with WinME and ran DVD2SVCD fine. I actually got convert times of 1.2 a few times. But then ME starts running slower, etc.. problems, errors, blue screens..

So, HP does not recommend either of these machines for W2K but I format the hard drives and load. The DVD in the 7867 was not compatible and there are no W2K drivers. Replaced with a $70 generic and works fine. Convert times are slow though.. 0.56.
I am curious to the convert time on the P4 now that the ASPI (auth_call.exe) problem is solved. I'm using the lastest DVD2SVCD build on the P4. I think it's xx.3

Sorry to get off subject. Bryan, I'm glad you experienced the same problem and solved it for me.
Gerti, I may try the Adaptec ASPI if either computer crashes and burns.

DT98.. I think I have a strike on me for rambling....
Regards..

Hi again mrbass,

Yep, I've been known to click a file before extracting but ahhh, not this time. I think I just clicked on the wrong bat file. I'm going to keep an eye on the convert process and see how W2K compares to ME. I may lose time but I think reliability will greatly improve.
Best regards...
