Wow,
I just realize how good is the Chinese Pirating DVD company,
my friends give a sample of a pirate copy of Shrek with no
region format, all the feature are same with the original
except it's no region coding, and the price is only US$5
and the DVD is DVD 9 Dual layer.
Hm... I've been thinking to stop trancoding the DVD to DivX
even the XviD if the price is only US$5 and I got all the
features. :)

Are you sure? Because I've seen a few of these chinese copies and usually the audio is way out of sync. Not to mention the chinese burned-in subtitles

I just got back from China and Hong Kong a few weeks ago and yes there are some bad DVD's out there but there are also some very good ones. I just bought the X-files seasons 1-5 over there for about $150 US. These are region free and have 4 languages and about 10 subtitles or so. All episodes I have watched played flawlessly. The guys that ripped them knew what they were doing (except maybe with the spelling of the actors :)). My experience with buying DVDs and playstation games over there is that it is basically a crap shoot. You win some and you lose some.

Silver presses have been this far for a very long time. And burned in subtitles are very very rare, 99% of the time they are just streams in the vobs. Anyways, those companys just buy the entire imaged dvd from someone in r1, then use that image for their processing.
Silvers are a HUGE industry there, and the technology they have at their disposal is limitless.

When hearing about such things I always ask myself that which one is the real "free world", China or the capitalists... :D

are you crazy, gabest? you call countries without democracy but cheap dvds freer than ours?
if you call it freedom that its allowed (or noone cares about) if someone sells copies without paying for them, you are just dumb. because if that were so everywhere nobody would make movies any more.
the only thing that would be good are legal dvds at a price of $5. but that has nothing to do with being a free country.

because if that were so everywhere nobody would make movies any more.Since one with a broadband connection can already dl anything since a long time, that point is not very far to my opinion. May be we'll see free dvd's stuffed commercials in the future :P

A friend of mine just mailed from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and said he found tons of DVD movies, some even with German language, for about 1$ each.
Let's see what he brings back...

@theReal,
You got the point ;)
Actually there are 2 types of DVD which sold in South East Asia,
DVD 5 and DVD 9.
The DVD 5 usualy contain only stereo sound or even with 5.1 AC3
but something not sync. and sometimes have the title which not
released yet in DVD version such as Spiderman, Scorpion King, etc.
The price is very cheap only US$1 - US$2 and all are region free.
The DVD 9 always contain title which already released in the
DVD format in the US, have AC3 5.1 and DTS sound.
The price is a little bit higher than the DVD 5, US$3 - US$4 all
are the region free.
Thank you.

I have been to thailand resently and bought some of this dvds and from what I can tell (I was there for 3 months so I checked alot about info on this dvds) its the dvd 9 from malaysia that are very good quality, same as the original ones and those cost about $5 if you dont bargain with them, but I guess everything is possible if you try. the dvd 5 that they sell for about $2 or less are ussually only with the ac3 5.1 sound track and ussually very messy mastered. audio synch issues and subs that they have written them self so the subs dont display what the peaple on the movie is saying.
and so on
but the best ones are from malaysia what I have found out.

"are you crazy, gabest? you call countries without democracy but cheap dvds freer than ours? "
He, he... I don't know much about democracy, but I'm sure that those countries are without money, better said people in...
If someone from USA is happy to buy DVD for couple dollars, what you think how happy is poor Chinese worker ?
What a hell democracy is that when you may choose from 2 multimillioner for president, and both are almost completely same ?
