Question on NTSC DVD: Film or NTSC ?

Hi !

I´m not absolutely shure if this fits here but I was using DVD2AVI to find out about the movie settings so here we go:

I´m not new to DVD transcoding but this is my first NTSC DVD.
I was using the preview function of DVD2AVI in order to
find out if the movie is progressive but something strange
happened:

Video Type says something like Film 87 % and 23 % NTSC
switching between this values all the time.

Frame type says both progressive and interlaced also
switching between both values all the time.

What settings should I use for deinterlace ?
Standard GKnot SmartDeinterlace ?
Greedy HMA ?

May be someone can bring some light into my
NTSC darkness :)

Switching back and forth; I know the feeling. You get that when either the Telecine was non-standard, or the metadata doesn't match.

Find a scene with movement. Turn off Force FILM. Examine it frame by frame:

If you see interlace artifacts in 2 out of 5 frames, its been Telecined. Use IVTC (which in Gknot 0.26 is Decomb) and set your framerate to 23.976.

If you see more than that, use Field Deinterlace and leave the framerate 29.97.

Force FILM can only be used when the mpeg2 metadata allows it.

BTW: The DVD is Armitage 3 (an Anime) and I think it´s the US version.

I´ll try this out.
