View Full Version : Bug? dvd2svcd deletes ifo file

Sometimes, when I use "Crash recovery", dvd2svcd deletes the ifo file.
I use win98 and last dvd2svcd (1.0.9 B3), but this has happened before with other versions of dvd2svcd.
This is what I did last time:
I ripped (vstrip) and converted the dvd but vcdxbuild failed while writing the first bin file (disk full).
Then I deleted some files (not created by dvd2svcd) of that hard disk (I did not delete ifo file ;D)
Then I tried "Crash Recovery" and when I accepted the d2v file I got a "File not found". The ifo file was deleted :(

This doesn't occurs every time I use "Crash Recovery" :? maybe only when I don't re-start dvd2svcd after a "crash"?
If I uncheck "Rip DVD to hard disk" before "crash recovery", and then I load the file, it works ok.

Sorry for my English O:)

Hi jarce_2k,

welcome to the forum btw. ;)

I only once had a disappearing IFO after doing some testing and fumbling with some DVD2SVCD settings. And I noticed the other day that the IFO file from one set of VOBs was gone. And I did not delete it, so it must have been DVD2SVCD as I tested some settings on this movie.

But, I was never able to reproduce this error since - in fact I did not try too hard at it. ;)

But from this moment on, I always do a backup copy of the IFO file as I usually have 3-4 sets of ripped VOBs on my harddrive to convert them later or to try some settings on them.

Greetings,
Gerti

When I want to make several tests with a DVD contents, I usually copy all VOBs + IFO file in another folder (Source). Then, I select "Rip DVD to hard disk" from Source file (e.g. to select only a few chapters) and leave default destination folder for the rest (Movie). When doing so, a new .ifo file is created in the Movie folder. I have not made the test, but I can guess that the original .ifo file is destroyed by the new one when selecting "Rip DVD to hard disk" option if you don't give it another name.

I, too, have had the "Case of the Disappearing IFO" with versions thru 1.09 b 2.

It can happen when one does Crash Recovery. It does not always occur. It may depend on where the DVD2SVCD process was stopped.

Solution:

1) Press Crash Recovery. Load the project file. You'll get some sort of error message. I forget exactly what it is.

2) Go to Conversion Tab. Select the IFO of the original source (on the DVD or elsewhere if you have already backed it up, for example with SmartRipper, to your hard drive).

3) Proceed with Crash Recovery. You'll notice that the IFO will suddenly reappear above your already ripped VOBs in the directory of where DVD2SVCD files are being created.

Hope this works. It has for me.

Hi,

Thanks gerti67 :)

Yesterday I had another crash, but this was while CCE encoding and I had to reset. When I reboot I made a "crash recovery" without any problem :?

It was another dvd, but I think that this is not the problem.

Now I make a backup of the ifo file as soon as it is ripped to the hd :D

Some weeks (months?) ago I was able to reproduce this "feature"... always using "crash recovery", and I think it has always happened while re-muxing or later. But not always happens.
