"- Enhancement: Added support for MPEG5.1 Audio using philips encoder. You must use I-Author as the CD-Image create program otherwise your SVCD will only have ordinary stereo sound. "

How I can encode DVD to SVCD with sound 5.1 ? In audio is still lame mode only: Stereo, Dual ch. , Joint stereo.
Or - i must use philips encoder ? Where I can find it ?

I tried it - because I have not program for burning .cif, I convert it with CDMage to CUE - but DVD Player still detect only L+R and no 5.1.

Hi machura,

I guess you figured it out now to set the "Output mode" to "MPEG 5.1" now in "Audio" tab?

If so, and you have used I-Autor for muxing and your player still shows Stereo than I think it does not support MPEG 5.1 - it's that easy. ;)

There are only a very few players that can handle MPEG 5.1 properly mainly some Philips DVD players with some built-in decoders IIRC - so don't worry about that (Do you still have your Thomson player?).

Greetings,
Gerti

Excuse me, my reinstall to 1.9B3 was not OK :-(
Now I reinstall it once again and there is options MPEG 5.1 yet.

I will try pub_enc.exe from MPEG 5.1 folder.

hmm, yeah I was wondering the same myself, well i have seen it tried a couple of times and only still to get 2.0 output..

Or do you have to have an MPEG 5.1 decoder ?

Is there some other basic settings required to make it output to 5.1 ?

Thanks for all the great input to make the best svcds available !!

Hi g-Indust®y,

and welcome to the forum, btw. :)

As I said before, you have to set the "Output mode" to "MPEG 5.1" in "Audio" tab and specify the correct path to the Philips 5.1 encoder that is contained in the bundle and you have to use I-Author for muxing that does _not_ come with the bundle and is not sold anymore nor is it available from the official website of the company anymore.

And most impotant thing is, if you don't own one of the rare standalone players that support MPEG Multichannel 5.1 then you may end up with a messed up audio output. Only a few Philips players and perhaps a very few players of other brands are said to play those SVCDs correctly - so you have to decide if it's worth the time for you.

Hope this helps,
Gerti

I tried it , but I must convert CIF file to CUE. I think, this conversion (cif -> cue, bin) has no effect for audio. My Thomson DTH5000 player playbacks audio well, but still only L+R => I think, it cannot play 5+1 in SVCD mode or I create 5.1 audio bad ...

Do you have any model-numbers on those Philips players, that supports SVCD with AC3 sound (and maybe also XSVCD) ? Unfortunately the dvdplayers list at www.vcdhelp.com does not offer the option top select players, that supports AC3 on SVCD.

Sorry,

I don't have the exact modell numbers - but usually the ones with an built-in AC3 decoder from Philips are reported to lay MPEG 5.1 multichannel sound.

So if I do not currently own I-Author I am SOL when it comes to 5.1 SVCD's???

I would really have liked to give 5.1 a try on my DVD player. :(

Philips 752/762 (difference is in color) play MPEG 5.1 audio.

I'm too still in the quest for Multichannel MPEG on SVCDs and as I have to buy me a new player anyway, I'm currently considering a Philips model or a Grundig Xenaro, because of their subtitel/audiotrack support. I heard the Grundig might play 5.1 as well.
The question I have: Why do one have to use I-Author? I don't have it and build all my SVCDs using VCDeasy. So I choose "Don't make image" in D2S and leave it to VCDimager in VCDeasy. As the muxed file should already contain the 5.1 channel sound, what does I-Author do? Or has a special flag to be set or a special disc structure to be created?

Thanks for all the help in here...

@inliner

If you burn muxed mpg with nero it will work, too. At least my test was successful some months ago. I suspect that other burning software works as well. The problem is with vcdxbuild/vcdimager because they do not recognize 5.1 MPEG sound.

But if you plan to buy 5.1 MPEG capable dvd player then remember that most of the receivers have discrete analog 5.1 inputs. This means that you cannot use bass boost, equaliser, surround effects etc with analog 5.1 input. For example stereo dolby prologic sound with cinema effects sounds better than 5.1 MPEG sound without any effects/bass boost/treble etc. Test your receiver before buying anything. Just select 5.1 analog input and press controls to see if you can use them. My Sony reports me that controls are "not used".

I have Philips 752 and I cannot enjoy MPEG 5.1 because dolby stereo with cinema effects sounds MUCH better. But if you buy receiver with built-in MPEG 5.1 decoder then you can use your existing dvd player to enjoy MPEG 5.1 sound. Most of the players should output MPEG 5.1 thru digital output.

@Juhan

Your first paragraph didn't make it clear to me where the problem arises. In my understanding, if the muxed stream contains 5.1 sound then it should be there too when burned to disc. The burning software will not really alter the stream and convert the audio information other then setting a flag if its 5.1 or???

And yes, I already have a Pioneer receiver, which is able to decode MPEG Multichannel if fed via digital-in.
