avi files with .sub files to svcd with selectable subs with DVD2SVCD

I have several DVD/AVI rips with .sub files extracted. I know how to use vobsub to view the subs in mediaplayer. I know how to add the vobsub plugin to the AVS file, to encode permanenet subs using DVD2SVCD. My question (and yes i have used the "search" to try and find an answer)is "Can I create an SVCD with "selectable" subs using DVD2SVCD from an AVI source?". I have read several sub guides. But I am unable to find a way to do this. I use the english subs, as a "close caption" (I am slightly hard of hearing) so I don't have to turn up the volume at night. But my wife finds the subs objectionable.
