I normally dont restart until i really have to...i rebooted yesterday but that was after 19 days of being on. My computer never really crashes...it will just get slower...or some programs might not work properly.

twistee, that sounds just like a friend of mine who almost never restarts his Win2k machine. Recently I gave him a few Realmedia 9 videos, so he had to update the old Realplayer G2 - a week later he still had not watched one of the videos because the Real update needed a restart and he refused to do it without some more good reasons...

Maybe the SP3 update gave him a reason to reboot now :D

hahaha. thats pretty much what i do as well :) when i restart all of a sudden heaps of new things finally work. its good to know im not the only one :)

Hmmm... sounds to me as though you have very little RAM, if you only get responsiveness with Win98. I noticed a big improvement in responsiveness when I upgraded my Win2k laptop from 64mb 192mb..

it shipped readily installed with my new computer... and since i was too lacy to first downgrade to 2k and then reinstall all the programs (i'm pretty sure some of them like PowerDVD XP wouldn't have worked at all)
i just sticked with it... and it wasn't the worst joice either... most of the new feats are simply konvenient i'd say! but yes ... i woul NOT have upgraded my old computer to XP unless (as it happened) the hard disk gave up a month ago! (Didn't pay for winxp anyway and neither for win2k :-P)

so i'd say both win2k and XP have their advantages BUT shame on everybody who's using WinME!! i really don't understand why anybody is using it!

PowerDVD XP (4.0) works fine in win2k, altho im sure it will surely miss VMR capability ;)

but mainly because of the fast boot time and that programs dont freeze when you open the task manager is the reason for win xp
I use xp pro because it is far superior to xp home and for its backup/rollback program.

Also Microsoft maintains that the information being sent back is used purely to fix flaws in thier progamming. So if someone were to have say an illegal copy of windows xp professional being run they could not prosecute because it would mean ultimate breakup of the company (a good thing?)

I was once able to stop a woman from deleting her Windows folder ("what's all that stuff - I don't need it!").
What I don't get is how someone can be a professor for comparative literature, but you can't explain to her why her computer won't run without an Operating System... ("Operating System? I only need Word!"). LOL

I dual boot xp & 2k, and 2k runs like shit for me compared to xp. No idea why, all I did was a clean install of it, nothing else even installed. I run my few programs, and all of them run way slower in 2k.

If you're using USB switch to switch between USB devices for multiple computers (single peripheral), XP does it gracefully, 2K gives an annoying Warning Window.

Switched to XP for about 3 weeks and just went back to win2k last night. I know its stupid but its the mouse control that made me do it. In XP there is only one setting for acceleration "enhance pointer precision" instead of 3 settings like win2k. I really like accel ON in windows so I can move around quickly, but in games like CS I hate it. Now in WinXP I either have to run a reg patch that disables accel completely, making the mouse far too slow in windows, or turn it off everytime I want to play a game. Sorry but the extra hastle just pissed me off too much.
