Hello :)
I have a PAL interlaced source that looks rather strange to me.
Playing it back frame by frame there are 13 frames that look normal (they don't look interlaced) then there are 12 frames that are interlaced. It then appears to repeat this process over and over.
I tried using GORDIAN KNOT a few weeks ago (it was version 0.26 beta) and simply checked the FIELD DEINTERLACE option. This resulted in what I think I've heard of as GHOSTING. For instance, when someone was moving, they would sometimes leave a "trail" behind them ... like they temporarily smudged onto the screen.
So anyone have any suggestions?
I'm about to try again but this time I will be using FAST DEINTERLACE although I've heard that produces only so-so quality.
It's a DVD I own so I can rip it and try over and over again but since a full length movie takes me about 8 to 9 hours to encode, well, as you can imagine suggestions are more than welcome.

P.S.
This is the UK PAL DVD release of THE RING 2 which is a Japanese film. It appears to have been made with film, not video, but since Japan uses NTSC I wonder if this might be a NTSC to PAL video transfer VS a true 24fps film to 25fps PAL transfer.
P.S.
In case anyone is curious the UK PAL DVD of the first RING movie is true PAL Progressive and encodes VERY well ... too bad the sequel wasn't the same way :(
