Sounds pretty scary. Next time when I'm writing a crappy gui for a commandline program, I'll notise I'll have to send the program to m$ for "authorisation" before anybody else can use it(but somebody will always crack it, xp(both office and windows) was cracked, everuthing can cracked).

Note that you'll have to replace even your keyboard and monitor with encryption-enabled peripherals. M$ doesn't want you so much as being able to capture a screen image without their approval. I look at the hassle you'll be put through if your hard drive dies, even if you have a backup.

I hope programmers will still make w98 compatible programs, because I won't replace my 98 with any other shit that Microsoft produces (well, may be 2000, but starting from XP, don't even count on me!)

what do u think can be done about that?? it seems that when all this shit starts rolling, it might be too late. as time goes by, the world is getting darker by the minute.

there must be legislative initiatives. seems europe is our only hope. let's hope it finds the power and morality to fight this shit.

Lindows, here I come...

Lindows isn't going to be able to run much well - they're now touting their own [inexpensive] software as opposed to bragging about MS compatibility. And tough programs like encoding utilities - not a chance in hell.

This is why I was thinking of posting an appeal to the coders in the Development forum to start coding their tools for Linux as well as MS. I'm still on Win2000 at the moment, but if things continue to develop like this at this rate, I'll probably make the permanent switch to Linux within the next year, and I'd like to be able to continue to encode my movies, especially since MS isn't going to let me anyway. Or maybe I'll just have to have an old Win2000 machine around to do that. We'll see.......

Keep within Windoze 2k or else switch to Linux/Unix...

I think that that Linux box I've been meaning to build for shells, is going to be built a lot sooner than I had previously thought. As I now feel a burning fire under my ass to learn how Linux works...

I truly hope that AMD doesn't jump on that bandwagon. I don't do business with Intel currently. I love AMD, but it sounds as if they're going to be into this also...

Is it just me or does that look really stupid? And was I the only one to notice it was encoded in that MPEG crap? Where was the beautifull 50Kbps TV quality Windows Media 8 ASF file? How ironic even MS can't make themselves use their own crap format. Not even internnaly. LOL
