I'm ripping opera from dvd to divx;-) and I want good audio quality. So I decided to use 192kps mp3 audio(lame/gknot). But when I play the divx movie in my player (BSPlayer/Nimo Codec Pack) I see that the bitrate is 180kps. What did I do wrong? And how do I do it right?

I'm not really sure if I can hear a difference between the avi audio and the generated mp3 audio file.... But I don't trust it.

Can I rip the audio back from the avi to a mp3 file, so I can check if winamp sees a difference?

Thanks for your help.

Hi-

If your MP3 is VBR, that would explain it, and nothing's wrong. If it's CBR, that wouldn't explain it. To get the sound back out of the .avi, Save WAV in Nandub and rename the extension to mp3.

manono is right - average bitrate always comes out a little lower in abr mode.

if you are using such a high bitrate you should consider keeping the ac3 soundtrack!

I agree with TheWEF: keep the AC3 soundtrack! The 2-channel (Dolby Surround) AC3 track is 192kbit, so there's no need to convert it!
