Anyone use Gamma in 1.77.3?

Here's a quote from the DVD2AVI website:

DVD2AVI & VFAPI Plug-In 1.77.3
- replace Gain control of Luminance Filter with Gamma correction

Now with the older 1.76 version I used to punch in "135,8" as parameters for gain and luminance (actually I manually edited the .D2V file since the GUI was not that good).

Does anyone know how I can get a similar effect with the new Gamma/offset parameters?

I was hanging around here a while ago when DVD2AVI came out and developped into 1.76. One thing really frustrated me; at the time I was playing around with ALIEN's scene inside the alien ship. And for some reason, the scene was way too dim. The original was bright and lively (as when played via a computer DVD player).

I then used Virtual Dub's gamma correction to correct the colors but it was slow and annoying.

Then Jackei (the author of DVD2AVI) suggested I use luminance=135,8 in order to ajust the picture brightness. And it worked great!!!

This being said, it's all a question of personnal taste. Some people prefer the original, others prefer the brighter picture. I suggest you try it out to see what you prefer. Oh by the way, the brigtness slider in 1.76 is quite horrible. I suggest you edit the .D2V file manually:

(This will not work in DVD2AVI 1.77.x!!!!)

Luminance=135,8
The original Luminance should be 128,0.

Don't forget to convert to .AVI with VFAPIConf AFTER you've edited the .D2V file!!!

i don't think i will use it. for, there is ffdshow which can correct luminance gain (brightness), luminance offset (contrast)and gamma during playback. furthermore, it features a switch which is called level fix luminance which seems to automatically make dynamic adjustments to the brightness of the picture. for this reason i don't see any reason to tamper with the source material.
