What does the NoiseFilter in Gknot really do?

Hi-
Maybe he's really asking what noise is, since obviously a noise filter will try to get rid of noise.
So-have you ever watched Saving Private Ryan or Tigerland? Those little black specks running all over the screen are noise. Have you ever seen an old black and white movie with all the scratches and nicks? That's another kind of noise. Noise is anything coming between you and a clear view of the movie itself. Those kinds of things will chew up the bits, and make the movie much harder to compress. A Noise Filter will try to lessen them to help in the compressibility.
