View Full Version : Encoding as SVCD and multiplexing as VCD?

Hi! Just a quick question...
Is there any way, in DVD2SVCD, to encode with CCE in mpeg-2 SVCD, and then multiplex in bbmpeg as VCD?
It's that trick of single-multiplexing an mpeg-2 file into mpeg-1 vcd so that it has vcd headers and your standalone dvd player can read it.
"Well, why aren't you encoding in mpeg-1 VCD in the first place?" Because I want to use CCE, as it's much faster, and does better in mpeg-2. Encoding with CCE in mpeg-1, the image stops and I get a/v desync on my player.
Thanks in advance!

Ok, at least, is there a way to select MPEG-2 in the Misc tab, and then to get the advanced bbmpeg settings unlocked to MPEG-1 in the bbMPEG tab?
Thanks

chainsaw, that's what I have been doing :))
I was just trying to automate the process in DVD2SVCD. This way, I think I could even make an SVCD complete with menus and chapters that my picky-too-expensive-isn't-worth-the-price Sony could play.
Besides, single-multiplexing one-cd encoded mpegs in tmpg to mpeg-1 vcd makes the output file 300 MB bigger, and to mpeg-1 vcd non-standard the filesize is "correct", but has a/v desync when burned and played.
(Why do I want to make crappy one-cd vcds? Well, for Disney movies, the bitrate (vbr) is usually more than enough for more than decent quality)

Not sure I follow everything you said Plantaman... Why is the file 300MB bigger when done as a VCD? If anything, the VCD should usually be smaller than a SVCD.
As for your a/v sync issues, I've found that multiplexing a svcd by selecting 'mpeg1 vcd' rather than 'mpeg1 vcd (non-standard)' helps prevent those issues (on my picky Sony, at least... DVP-C660).

"Why is the file 300MB bigger when done as a VCD?"
I have absolutely no idea, Daagar. It only happens, as I said, with one-cd encoded movies, cce vbr. If the filesize was correct, as it is with two or three-cd encoded movies (even smaller, actually), my problem would be solved. :(

@plantaman are you using 1 pass vbr? I was curious if you are try using 3 or 4 pass vbr.....

@chainsaw: 3-pass vbr
@bach: ooooohhh!!!! ok, I'm doing the multiplexing to mpeg-1 in bbmpeg now, hopefully it'll work

@plantaman:
Could you try this:
1. Select your basic SVCD settings + DVD2SVCD Level to advanced.
2. Wait until CCE has started it's encoding (or if you're doing ntsc movies you have to wait until pulldown starts)
3. Go to the misc. tab, select MPEG-1, in bbMPEG tab Advanced Settings select MPEG-1, in CD-Image tab select VCDImager. (do not at any time stop dvd2svcd or cce).

@dvd2svcd:
thanks for the advice, but I think I'm stuck here... The final video skips and jumps when played.
2-CD movies for me, I guess...
Thanks to all!
