A Question for doom, I have searched through the posts and a lot of people like myself have a proplem with this one, have you or any of the other senior members backed this film up to a dvd5 complete with menu as striping the angles reduces the size ok to fit but keeping the menu is a nightmare?

timasherd,
I have done SHREK, movie only (no menus). It was my very first rip it took some research, but managed it it on to DVD-5 with no transcoding required.
Hope that helps.

I must have chosen the two most difficult movies to start my new hobby - both region 2 Shrek and planet of the apes. Ive used both my own pc running xp and my sons running 98se. After reading Doom9 brill guides and ripping with smartripper and Dvddecrypter both with success, I used vobrator to identify vts 01,05 and 08 for shrek and vts 02,for planet of the apes then using infoedit091 I selected vob extras and remove seamless branching pgc_1 also strip streams and voblds, correct vob unit, correct ifo tables and create new video _ts.... and away i went,Bobs your uncle i end up with less than 4.38 gigs for POTApes.. tested it with Power Dvd and the movie plays a dream, proplem is .........no menu. I tried adding back video TS and other files but still no menu arrgghh! I do the same with Shrek only I remove Angles instead and again can play movie with power dvd but no bloody menu.
I must add i cannt play the movie with built in player with info edit- it crashes must be because I also have hollywood+ card and ATI cinimaster.oh and i ripped all the movie just like doom says.
Can please doom or one of the top dogs tell me if creating a dvd5 with menu is possible with these movies,if so ill keep trying till I sexually abuse my pc into admission
Cheers all

If I can suggest you one thing - try reading the IfoEdit forum - I've seen posts about menus there, so check it out.
And please, do not ask for Doom9 answer directly since he is too busy with other things and, as far as I know, he doesn't own dvd-burner.

I did Shrek last night onto DVD5 but with No Menus. The problem with this film is that the menus are highly animated. The VIDEO_TS.VOB is just under 1Gb !!! which is really film size - if you look at the menus you can see why !!
I am afraid that I don't do transcoding as it takes me so long on my PIII 650.
A stripped Shrek will just fit onto a DVD5 if you re-create the VIDEO_TS.xxx files using IFOEDIT. If you really wanted to keep the Menus & extras you could split it onto 2 x DVD5's. See

Happy ripping:devil:
