curious in which scenarios pulldown doesn't need to be used?
just wondering because i'm encoding a movie with a framerate of 23.97 and just like to know if this is a scenario where i shouldn't use pulldown, or whether it should just be used all the time.
thanks in advance - cbg

Depends on if you're making a VCD or SVCD, but since I'm that bored, I guess I'll answer both
So anyway, if its a VCD then no, 23.976 is a completely standard compliant and readable framerate (VCD Film). Applying pulldown to a video without fields is a contradictory statement anyway (and that would be the reason VCD Film exists as a standard - you can't telecine something with no fields).
For SVCD it is crucial that you use pulldown because 29.97 and 25 fps are the only two standard framerates recognized in the SVCD spec (but only use it on 23.976 material of course, don't pulldown something thats 29.97)
There you have it. Now back to reading the other 4 pages of new posts since last night
