i just have a couple of things i have been woundering about.
1.what audio does everyone prefer?
i myself use 192kbs.is this good enough or should i start using 224kbs or higher?
2.what encoder does everone prefer?
i myself use tmpg plus on high quality and 2 vbr pass(i think thats what its called).does cce or tmpg give better picture quality?
so far the svcds i have made with tmpg plus look very good.
3.what cd lenght do you use?
i myself have it set at 798mb so i dont have to overburn.
just a couple of things i was woundering about. :D

Hello imwithstupid,
1) I usually use 192 kBit for the audio stream and only sometimes when I convert long movies and I go for 3 CDs and the bitrate still allows it then I raise it to 224 kBit. But in general I'm more interested in higher video bitrates than in audio bitrates.
2) I use CCE with 4-Pass-VBR and BicubicResize 0.00/0.60 mainly for the better encoding speed and visual quality of CCE - although I must admit TMPGEnc gets better and better at it and most experts consider TMPGEnc to be better with DV material and when doing VCDs.
3) I use 800 MB as I don't have any problems with overburning - means usually I don't have to or only slightly which my burner does pretty well.
Hope that helps,
Gerti

1. like gerti i use 192 mostly. Only way i'll use 224 is if the movie is shorter then 1 hour 30 minutes.
2. I use cce 5 pass mostly sometimes 4 pass.. as time is not a big issue and i can see a difference between 4 and 5 pass..not much but still i'm into quality also i use a bicubic resize with 0.60 and sharpen 0.40, i also use lum gain of 14 and lum offset of 20.
3. I use 800 as dvd2svcd cuts it perfect for 80 minute cd's.

so is cce a better encoder?does the video quality look better than tmpg?also is it faster than tmpg?

@imwithstupid
Most people say that CCE is better at making SVCDs then VCDs amd the TMPG is better at making VCDs then SVCDS. Ive never made any VCDs so I cant say for sure.
I think that the quality of CCE is better then TMPG but thats my personal opionin. I know that with the newer releases of TMPG the quality gets better and better.
Its faster for me cause I use 1 pass VBR with CCE and for me to get that same quality with TMPG I have to do multipass.
If you can get CCE to work on your comp and not crash then I would go with that. If you have trouble with CCE then use TMPG. There are some settings on this forum that will produce a really good encode. Just do a search for it.

@imwithstupid I think cce is better in alot of ways, but i'm sure some could argue that its not. Just like jason28 has stated its faster and looks better when making svcd's. It's better not because of the costs either, but more of the programming of the two. I started off last year making Vcd's and i used tempgenc mostly and was happy with it.
The reason i made vcd's and not svcd's back last year was when dvd2svcd first came out there was no easy way 2 make a svcd, and so making svcd's took a LONG TIME and ALOT OF HARD work. I mean it was a pain really and making a vcd just seemed so much easyer. Now with the great program dvd2svcd its so easy now and myself i never need 2 make vcd's since i'm in to quality svcd is the way for me.
