Hi!

How can i cut a vbr movie with 5 sec overlaping time?

for example.

i have a finished vbr movie with 1.8 gb m2v movie data and 2 mp2 audio tracks.

With bbmpeg i can set cutting to 795mb to fit 2 x 80min cdroms. But i have no overlap.

With seconds i can't work because i use vbr.

So how can i (or how does dvd2svcd) cut a vbr svcd with an overlap time of 3-5 secounds

thx MagicG

the best cutter is TMPGEnc (mpeg tools).
Or you try PVAstrumento (www.offeryn.de), but this prog doesnt make SVCD-streams, that is you have to remux the cutted files again

Hi Mr_Magic,

DVD2SVCD is doing it about this way:

For the first part, it uses only the file size as a restriction - your 795 MB in this case. So you get a MPG file with about 795 MB, now DVD2SVCD checks the playing time of this file in seconds (you can do this manually with a software player).

Now mux the second part with the time you got in seconds minus the 5 seconds overlap - you enter this value in the "Start Second" box in bbMPEG and set the file size limit again to 795 MB. Again, you get a MPG of about 795 MB which has 5 seconds overlap. Now again check the playing time and proceed as before with the following parts if going for more than 2 CDs.

Hope this helps,
Gerti

Thank you very much.

TMPEGEnc is a nice tool, but it can't handle a dual lang mpeg stream. If you cut a mpeg-2 stream with 2 audio streams you will got 1 audio stream after cutting. So it doesn't solve the problem. ;)

The solution from gerti67 sound's much better. thanks.
I will try it this way. It's a workaround but okay.
I am sure this will work.

But i must abort bbmpeg when it's trying to create the 2th cd-file?!
zb.: first stream 795 .... waiting until finished. abort while creating cd2.
open cd1 with play. --> ex. 45:39
cd2: sec: 45x60+39 as starting position + 795MB.

Is this right?
Thank you very much

Hi again,

yes you can/have to abort bbMPEG when it is creating the second file or you use the modified bbMPEG version that comes with the DVD2SVCD bundle.

Then you can start it with the "RunbbMPEG.exe", hit "Settings", make all your settings and then save them to a INI file within the "Load and Save Settings" tab. Then you can edit the created INI file and insert this parameter "breakAfterFirst=1" in the "[general]" part of the INI.

After that, reload the INI into bbMPEG and check the settings again, sometimes it forgets the input files. Then hit "OK" and "Start" and now bbMPEG will stop ater creating the first muxed file. ;)

Or you just load an already created "bbMPEG Movie SettingsX.ini" from a previous DVD2SVCD conversion process - this already contains the necessary parameter to make it stop after the first part.

With your example of 45:39 min your nearly right. ;)

It's 45x60+39 = 2739 seconds, but IIRC you wanted a 5 sec overlap right? - Then the start point for the second muxed file should be 2739-5 = 2734 seconds. ;)

Gerti

Hi,

Thanks, very nice hint with the modified version.

I know i forgot to write -5 sek in my last post ;)

Works fine thank you.

btw: I have heart that the newest dvd2svcd version is able to encode in dolby sound with the philips encoder, is that right?

Now i use a workaround to create dolby mp2 soundtracks.

Thanks a lot for the answer it helped me alot.

thx Mr_Magic the little  :D

Me again,

DVD2SVCD produces a Dolby Pro Logic 1/2 (not Dolby Digital) compatible stereo downmix for a long time now. The newest version now has additional support for MPEG Multichannel 5.1 (a Philips extension to the SVCD specs) but only a very few players are known to play such SVCDs correctly (guess which ones - right some Phillips players with built-in decoders ;)).

Re,

What is a dolby Pro Logic 1/2 compatible stero sound?
I use acidgui and wavelab to create a dolby 5.1? soundtrack. The sound can play on all boxes sperate. Greate sound. Sure not digital but much more better than stero sound.

What is the difference between my sound channel, Dolby Pro Logic 1/2 and Mulitchannel 5.1 form philips?

Whoohoo,

you know, I'm not an audio techie and before posting something completely wrong - here's a link to people who should know this: ;)

http://www.dolby.org/company/is.ot.0011.TechOverview.html

Main difference is that Dolby Pro Logic only uses one surround channel - so there's no left or right in the background I think it is a 4.0 sound whereas the Philips MPEG Multichannel extension produces really 5.1 compatible sound - but as already said it's not in the official SVCD specs and only some kind of Philips extension so there are only a very few DVD players (some Philips) and decoders that can play MPEG Multichannel audio because it's not Dolby Digital.

Hope this helps,
Gerti

P.S. If you want to know more on this, especially when your PC is involved you should ask the guys in the Audio Forum. ;)

Thanks, you helped me a lot.

The most importent thing was the overlapping time, and it
works fine now.

thx
