I was wondering what the easiest way to split an mpeg-2 file without the need for reencoding. Can anybody give me some pointers?

Hm, depends on:
Expensive solutions:

Womble MPEGVCR
M2Edit (I hope this is the right name)
Nanocosmos MPEG Tool

Free solution:
TMPEGEnc: See under file and MPEG tools. There youŽll find a section called cut/join.

In general MPEG is hard to cut because of the IBP-Frame structure. AVI is much easier to edit but has to be reencoded.

I use TMPEGEnc 2.35 exclusively to cut mpeg2. File > Mpeg Tools > Merge/cut...select mpeg2...add the mpeg..select an output folder..then double click the file to bring up the editor. Play some of the show first..then pause it. Drag the bar over to the desired cut length, press the } bracket to mark the end/cut. note: if the bar hangs/stalls...just wait a few minutes for it to catch up. Then click RUN....walla first half cut/created. Repeat above, but click the { bracket to mark the cut/beginning of the second half, click run. Don't for get to rename 2nd part different.
