Guys,

I dont know if I should be posting this here but, I have a DVD-rom drive that is hardware locked to region 2.

Does anybody know how I can unlock it? I could unlock my friends DVD drive easily but his player was software locked.

Thanks in advance.

Yours,
Beev

What is the exact make and model? It should be noted that most modern region locked rom cannot be unlocked (manufacturers ain't leaking the bios anymore), so it is usually better to buy one that is already region free.

If you are UK, get a region free drive here (Pioneer 106S)http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_CD_DVD_10.html

Thanks for the Reply.

It is a Liteon LTD 163. Or something along those lines. The shop where I bought it from told me that there is a patch for it but they are unsure of where to download it and the exact version I will need.

They also warned me that it could harm the drive if I download the worng patch. So im a bit wary of that.

Well if there is a patch for the 163, I haven't found (and I've looked hard) 'cause I got one as well.

My other system has the Pioneer 106S and windvd+ dvdgenie, and that plays whateve I give it.

Try this: http://perso.club-internet.fr/farzeno/dvdf/R1211.zip

I found it here: http://perso.club-internet.fr/farzeno/firmware/

I haven't tried this as I do not have this drive, but the firmwares I have downloaded from this site worked for the three other drives I have.

I hope this helps.
