Right, I open my .avi with CCE 2.50 & do the 1st OPVBR. When this is finished and it comes back to the 'add' window, can I save it at this point & exit CCE, then come back to it later to do 2-3 multipass, or does the window have to stay open to do the multipass without exiting the program ?

As long as you do not change any settings (other than the bitrates) and do not delete the .VAF file, you can begin another pass at any time. CCE updates the .VAF file every time you do a pass.
If, after a couple of days, you decide that you don't like the quality of your encode, DELETE it and begin another pass (or don't delete it - CCE will if it is in the same directory).

So I can do a one pass VBR when thats done - save the .ecl, Then strike it up again another day, and continue with a 2-3 multipass with no probs?

As long as you do "multiple pass" on the second and third tries you will get the improvement associated with multipasses. But if you ever do "single pass vbr" or "constant rate" again, the .VAF is recreated from scratch and you're starting over.
You don't even have to save an ECL -- the multiple pass information is stored in the .VAF.

If you are asking a question (rather than providing useful information), please do not doublepost. I have moved this from the DVD-Authoring thread, here to the CCE thread where you also posted identically.

When you open it up the second (or third time), you may want to go into the Video tab and check your settings again. I had a couple of encodes go awry because CCE defaulted to 01:00:00:00 in its time code - then it reports that the time code does not match and aborts. I would re-do the first pass then till I figured out that all I needed to do was change the time code and re-check the options under the video tab (DVD Compliant, quantizer, etc.)
