I own two DVDs for my daughter that are "Horse shows/movies"
Anytime there is action, or the horse running, the encoded video is choppy, flicker, just down right annoying.

I used the defaults for DVD2SVCD 1.09B1 and it works for everything I've tried but these two. They are NTSC but one is an English production and the other an Australian/Canadian production.

I ripped the entire DVD with Smartripper to my system. I have a second DVD2SVCD system (dual PIII Win2K Pro) and I have DVD2SVCD look at the smart ripper network directory and re-rip it using "INTERNAL TOOLS" and all the defaults. As I said this has worked for everything but these two titles. It looks as if it is missing frames or trying to fill in frames every time there is fast motion.

Any ideas/suggestions or links to suggested reading would be appreciated.

Thanks to all for your help and to the authors of DVD2SVCD, keep up the good work.

You should not use any other ripper besides the internal or vstrip unless those 2 fail you. Your problem could be that or the fact that the movie is not totally a film based movie. You can load up the vob files check and see if the film is interlaced or not.

:( Ok, how do I check if it is interlaced or not?

Reason I do a two step rip is the box I use for DVD2svcd does not have a DVD in it. Is a 2U Server that my company stopped manufactoring so they gave them to the employees to "take home and crush"...Yeh right!

I guess I can rip remotely, ties up two machines though, and I have done that in the past, still get same results.

Thanks

"You can load up the vob files check and see if the film is interlaced or not."

Just load the vob files in to dvd2avi then press F5 you'll see a window to the left pop up...that should tell you if its film or interlaced.

Thanks,

NTSC 4:3 INTERLACED Frame type.

Thanks for the help....If I can trouble you one last time

Recommendations between Smart Deinterlace vs Blend?

bitrate seem to vary alittle during action scenes as DVD2avi plays it.

I have had only a few movies be interlaced.... what i did on both of them was set dvd2svcd 2 smartdeinterlace... both times it worked flawless.

to add to this, i've done several with blendfields and all look fine. I choose it because i'm scared of the smartdeinterlace options :(

Maybe someone with more knowledge could explain the differences, advantages, and options?
