strange cd-rw error

i have a cd burner that is giving me a "medium speed error" when i try to burn at any speed. its not the actual cd, ive tried many, the burner doesnt even start to write to the cd.

was wondering if anyone else has seen this error before, or may know its cause

I get this a lot with Memorex CD-Rs on my Ricoh MP7200A. I'd try different brands and also higher rated speed media.

The problem also seems to crop up more when I'm encoding something/using a lot of clock cycles. Try burning when your computer is idle (even if you have buffer underrun protection).
