hi,

im thinking about upgrading my system

using now pIII 750

as i read only about cce 2.50 supports athlon & pIII

i would like to know if p4 or athlon XP

are also supported and if there are any limitations then
with framserving with avs

Well this is a touchy subject really, i mean its preference and some can argue both ways. The way i see it is i get better performance out of my AMD XP chips then i do off the P4's i have tested. So for myself i would buy the xp1900 or xp2100. For video encoding, speeds seem to be faster on the xp chips then on a p4. You must also weigh in costs the cost of the p4 has gone down but the XP'S are cheaper still. You can do a search on this site and find test results with the p4v's AMD chips.

I upgraded from P3750 to Athlon XP 1800 512mb DDRPC2100 and have 100GB hard drive. Cut my encoding time from 6 hours on a 2 hour movie to 3 hours with new system. Athlon XP rocks!!!:D

Well things arenot bad on a p4 1800 either. I can argue they are a little better. CCE reports .78x so a 2 hour movie encodes on one pass VBR in 2,5h.

ok, i got me now an athlon XP 1800 / 512 mb DDR cl2 infineon

and it rocks :D

i make svcd vbr ~2450 at 1.350 (~33.75 fps)

and dvd streams 720 * 576 vbr ~2500 at 1.140 (~28.50 fps)

so i feel very comftorbal now, cause working always
with 2 passes.

my decission was made out of the price mainly, cause also
needed a new motherboard.

The easyest way to increase speed in CCE is to try to avoid at maximum resizing and resampling your video.
If you manage to keep the original resolution of the film you encode, the speed will be maximum (~ 2.0)
720*576 -> 720*576 is way faster than 720*576 -> 480*576 which is faster than 720*576 -> 480*480

well, i stay at 720 x 576 like original dvd

all i do is resample to ~ vbr 2500 (0-9500) 2 passes

to get 2 movies fit on 1 dvdr wich works pretty nice ;)

ausio comes then to 128 kbit

what sounds strange now is, when i made svcd (resizing to 480 x 576)
i was faster as mentioned above

dvdr -- ~ 1.140

svcd -- ~ 1.350

so i rather think when cce has less resolution to resample
it is faster.

or am i getting something wrong (settings, etc..)

Makes perfect sense I think.
702x576 has 50% more pixels to encode, which takes more time than resizing to 480 using even the slowest (bicubic) algorythm.

SVCD 1.600 ~ 38-40 Frames/S
VCD 2.000 ~ 50 Frames

Build a comp based on a Northwood P4 if you what speed in CCE. I have a 2.26GHz P4(533mhz version)that a stock speed does 1.88 in CCE when encoding SVCD's. I have yet to see a single processor XP machine reach that speed and most of the dual XP machines are not much faster but cost alot more.

sorry diable, but you are wrong.

My amd 2000+ rig reaches speeds of 1.95 in CCE

amd2000+ @ 1.73ghz (138fsb)
soyo dragon lite (kt333chipset)
512mb Micron pc2100 DDR at 138x2
gf4 ti 4200 at 275/550

That is with 3pass VBR and image quality 25, simple resize.

If I decide to turn up all the juice, enabling noise filter of 4, and bicubic resizing, I still get 1.5. I have been able to rip complete movies from vob's to bin/cues in 5 hours using quality settings.

p4 is a good chip tho.

I am very interested to know if you overclock your P4 and to how much AND what CCE speeds you get from it. I'm told the Northwoods are great overclockers. I have an Athlon 1.4 Ghz now and I am thinking about either purchasing an XP2000+ or better OR swap out the motherboard and chip for a Northwood and overclock it.

I get about 1.3-1.5 encoding now.

Whatcha think?

keith xp, as u can see from my posts, i get speeds of 1.9 with my rig and my chip only cost 140bucks oem.

Now if you want the absolute fastest encoding and money is no object, then i would go with a p4 2.4ghz. they are pricey, however. Yes, many of the 1.6 and 1.8 northwoods are overclocking to 2.4ghz and beyond but thats not guranteed and even if you make it that high, its not going to be 100percent stable. I dont care what all these "o/cers" tell you. If you run your chip more than 10% outta spec, your chances for random errors skyrocket.

wow, thats some incredible speeds here

wondering what im doing wrong here

im using

XP 1800+ (not OC)
512mb DDR 266 Infineon CL2
ECS K7S6A SIS 745
2 HD´s

working with smartripper, dvd2avi, avs, cce 2.5

encoding always from 1 hd to other

my settings are regular about

1st encoding cbr 40 (0-9500)
3pass encoding vbr ~2600 (0-9500)

i encode for dvd compliant 720 x 576 (2 movies - 1 dvdr)

no extras in avs file

sample

LoadPlugin("C:\windows\system32\mpeg2dec.dll")
mpeg2source("D:\myfile.d2v")
ResampleAudio(44100) <-- for cce not to crash ;)

no audio, i encode audio sep. with tmpeg

i leave the cce filters as they are, i tryed once pulling them down
but then i had some kind of "pixeled" picture, not as smooth sharp
as regular

may some ppls here with some suggestions how to perform

may with some system settings or cce settings, i think would be
interesting for lots of ppls

using here winXP pro, may thats the reason ? cant really imagine
