View Full Version : Help getting audio back in sync in DVDMaestro

You may have seen my other posts concerning backing up Sopranos.
I'm transcoding, so I have done the following: (for the disks that have given me audio sync problems)
Smartripped each episode into their own vobs
DVD2AVI'd them
VFAPI'd them
CCE'd them
Pulldown'd them
Into DVDMaestro
Rip the motion menus and sound, make the buttons, assemble and I have a pretty nice looking backup.
That being said, I have 1 disk left that is still out of sync on one episode (episode 3), the rest look good. The other audio sync problem disk worked great once I broke up the episodes. Go figure.
I've even tried DVD2AVI'ing it past the HBO logo to see if the synch problem was there, and no go.
What software should I use to try and get this back in sync? I'm guessing now I'm going to have to try and set the audio delay manually till I get it lined up?
Any advice on technique and s/w is appreciated. This is my last disk in the 2 season series and I'm very happy that I'm almost finished. It's been a real 'task' compared to to regular movies!

I was able to fix my synch problems using AC3 Delay Corrector (available on Doom9). In my case, I just plugged in the -336ms value that was in the file name and when I put the new file in DVDMaestro the audio was back in sync. Seems like for some reason, the file that DVD2AVI created showed the audio delay in the filename, but didn't appear to have actually been applied to the file. Running through AC3 Delay Corrector seems to have fixed things up.

I have a simalar problem, but mine was not so easily solved.
Here's what I am doing: (Sopranos, Season 1, Disk 3)
rip full disk in file mode
run vobs through DVD2AVI (forced FILM)
using VFAPI on d2v file
re-encoding with CCE
authoring with Maestro (multi pgc method)
When I pull my sources into Maestro, the audio file is about 3 seconds shorter than the video which, of course, makes it out of sync. I tried AC3 delay corector, but no change.
If I ignore the fact the the audio and video are different lenghts and just author (after establishing all the playlist info), i edn up with chapter pointers that are ay out of place, they seen to match up with where the audio should be, but the video it not in the right place.
Any Suggestions?

I am having same probs...
I have a regular audio delay of -80 ms on 2 audio tracks and ac3 delay corrector is adding 96 ms so I still have a delay (+16) and I am authoring in Maestro but the audio will still be out of synch.
I did try 'synch audio track' in Maestro but I dont think it solved it. :( Didnt appear too anyway. Can you set delay in that prog like you can in IfoEdit?
Havent a clue what to do and may just DVD2ONE it to save hassle but would rather do it the hard way, thats just me. :)
Thanks.:D

LOL I was only slightly confused before I read the thread, not now. Now I am very much so...
Not so sure about all the dvd2avi business as I demuxed audio with that and smartripper and even dvd decrypter and ALL had the -80 ms delay. Just to test a theory. Seems the delay maybe a necessary thing esp as I use Maestro, this should take into account the delay for the start of some films. ie I did a james bond film with -80 ms delay cut out delay and used Maestro when I played movie it was way out of synch. I think i should have left it alone.:(
I not sure that delay matters except in ifoedit, maybe my prob is I am doing animation films now and synch is not as accurate as regular film??
  :D

I'm in the US, so mine is NTSC.
the sync problem doesn't start until the second PGC, the fisrt seems fine, the second is bad the third and fourth seem worse.
The confusing thing is, I did disk one and two of the first season using the EXACT same process and they turned out fine, I also used this process on the band of brothers disks and they too were no problem.

ok, this is what i had to do to make sopranos season 1, disk3 work. (keep in mind this method is a bit unorthodox and it was only with this disk that i needed to use it)
1. using dvd decrypter, rip each PGC seperately and demux audio and video (also make sure you set the options to NOT split the demuxed video file)
2. import these m2v files into maestro, and place them back to back on the video timeline (the PGC order for this disk is 1,3,2,4).
3. create a sync audio track for the respective video files you just layed out
4. import the chapters and create playlists like you would in any muli-PGC disk using maestro
5. author the disk
now, with the files you have just output, you have an "unflawed" copy of the disk. run these vobs through dvd2avi and cce and author again, then merge with the original files using ifo update.
it worked for me after so many other things failed. i hope this helps someone out there.
