This is entirely tailored to my own needs, but I guess there are others who would find this useful. Here's the senerio:
1. Back-up entire DVD to hard drive.
2. Open DVD2SVCD and indicate which file to rip and encode. The difference is that I don't want to rip or encode yet, I just want to save the info for later batch processing.
3. Batch process.

Now, I know you can do the exact same thing with DVD2SVCD, except that you need to rip each item separately and wait for it to finish before going on to the next. If the program could be changed slightly to rip later, during the batch process, it would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Hi mdl,

hmm ... I've read your post a few times but I can really see no advantage in this way. The catch in it is that you need plenty of space on your harddrive for backing up the whole (?) DVD and then use the internal ripping on it - wow that's nearly the doubled up DVD size then.

On the other hand where is the advantage in backing up the DVD with a different program before? The fact is this program will need nearly the same time DVD2SVCD needs for ripping the DVD to your harddrive so why not using DVD2SVCD in the first place with the rip only feature? It's absolutely the same from my point of view.

A little bit confused,

Hi Gerti,

Here's the deal:
Yes, it does take a lot of hard drive space.

I like to rip the DVD (the whole thing) to my hard drive first, then figure out what I'm going to actually encode. For example, I may want to encode the movie with some extras like the trailer, or maybe a "behind the scenes" segment. Or, the DVD could containing six episodes of a TV show, which I would want to encode separately.

The idea here is to rip once, then figure out later what I want to actually encode. I also don't want to "babysit" each rip, whether it's the movie, or an extra, or a 25 min episode (eg. Friends).

Given that, It seems fairly simple to make the program rip later, rather than during "rip only" option, for later batch processing.

Well, there it is. Thanks for listening.

btw, I have an 80 Gb hard drive.
