View Full Version : divx+AC3(5.1)+powerdvd = accelerated video

I've just made a divx 4 with AC3(5.1 Ch) sound and I want to play it on my external dvd-player via the digital output of my soundcard.

If I try to play it with powerDVD/WMP6.4 the video accelerates to 400 frames/second while the AC3-file itself plays fine.

If I play it in WMP6.4 with "iviaudio.ax" using two channels is plays fine, but if I use the spdif-option it is accelerated again.

1) How do I play those files with powerDVD?

2) Can someone mail me the iviaudio-version with 5.1 Channel input?

c'mon there must me more people with this problem. I have a Terratec DMX 6 fire 24/96 sound card and I want to play the AC3 (of my divx 4) on my external dvd player. So the digital out of my Terratec is connected with the digital in of my amplifier.

(Installed the reg., so that waveout is used instead of direct sound in WMP6.4.)

dvd's play fine on my internal dvd-player.
I tried to play the avi setting/using cyberlink filter to SPDIF. The AC3 plays fine on all six channels but the video is accelerated.
I tried to play the avi setting/using intervideo filter to SPDIF. The AC3 plays fine on all six channels but the video is accelerated.
I tried to play the avi setting/using cyberlink filter to 4/6 channels. The AC3 plays on two channels and the video is plays fine.
I tried to play the avi setting/using intervideo filter v2.0 to 2 channels. The AC3 plays on two channels and the video is plays fine.
I tried to play the avi setting/using intervideo filter v3.1.58.16 to 2 channels in WMP6.4 (4/6 channels can't be set here). No sound and the video is plays fine.
I tried to play the avi setting/using intervideo filter v3.1.58.16 to 2/4/6 channels in bsplayer. No sound and the video is plays fine.

Does some know how to solve this ? (I haven't tried powerdivx and newer versions of iviaudio yet.)

Update:

Some good news and bad news:

Good news: The problem is not my new Terratex or digital output.

Bad news: I have this problem (accelerating of my video) with all my avis and mpegs. On some of them it is more noticible than others.

With the software of my Terratex I also installed the needed DirectX 8. I'm using Win98SE and videocard ASUS v3800. Could this be the problem? In the weekend I will reinstall DirectX 8 and the newest driver for my video card.

That's mainly a problem with the shitty direct show filters. Test with Graphedit.

No, that's not the problem. Like I said above: (Installed the reg., so that waveout is used instead of direct show in WMP6.4.).

I solved my "bad news". In the control panel of my sound cards, I can change the Herz setting of an internal device (say dvd-player or whatever). Normally it stays on 48 kHz and you have to change it manually. The strange thing is that this setting has influence on my video bitrate of my avis/mpegs. If I have a movie of 16 kHz (and I don't change that setting) it will be played with a video bitrate which is three times to fast. Like I said, I don't understand this.

But I haven't solved my other problem, listed in 2 and 3.

edit:

The video plays fine (as in 2 and 3) if I use direct show instead of waveout (thus using spdif). Ok, it lasted four minutes before my computer desided to reboot itself :)

I have exactly the same problem (as mentionned in your 2 and 3).

Did you suceed to solve it meanwhile ?

Let me know...

No, sorry still the same problem if I use spdif. Instead I use option 4 (six channels excluding center speaker *), using AC3filter (version 0.55b IIRC), and set the sound on mono in control panel.

* if I include the center speaker I got the problem that i don't hear any voices (I hear everything else).

What is your video card ?

TNT2 (ASUS v3800 32MB)

OK, we have completely different configurations :
Sound card : Hercules Fortissimo III 7.1
Video card : GeForce 2MX 32Mo + TV out
OS : W98SE

Thus, it is not a problem of hardware. Moreover, when I play a real DVD with PowerDVD configured in S/PDIF, everything is perfect. It's only for DivX that I get the problem.

There must be something on our configuration that sucks...

Could it be a muxing problem by chance? It's a shot in the dark but perhaps using AVImux-GUI instead of NanDub might do the trick. AVImux will give you a properly muxed stream unlike NanDub, it has fixed alot of strange problems I use to see...

I will try that, but I've no time before Xmas.

I'll try too, but note that when S/PDIF is disabled, and AC3 decoded by the sound card, video is properly synchronized...

LaFouine,

I use to have the same exact problem and was constantly playing with interleave settings within NanDub to try and fix it. Now with AVImux, I no longer worry about it;) Notice how often your CD drive gets accessed if you mux with AVImux instead of NanDub? *grin* This tool is a life saver, hope it helps you guys out.

What speed is your CPU and how much RAM?

I'm desperate! :(
Nothing changes. I made the test with AVImux, but it's the same...

My PC is a Pentium III 1GHz, with 512Mo RAM

Perhaps, if I have the courage, I'll reformat my HDD, reinstall everything and see if it changes....

@Wilbert

Try Ogo's ReClock 0.99c filter : http://ogo.nerim.net/reclockfilter/
With his filter I get no more problem of accelerated video in AC3 passtrough mode. It is so great !!

Tell me if it works better for you also ?

Thank you again to Ogo for is excellent work.

Ok, I will try.

Last week I installed Win2000 (still have Win98 on another partion), but all those stupid problems are gone (without installing Reclock)!!! Worked well with ac3filter, elecard and iviaudio.

@Wilbert
Under W98 you may need MS patch for non-PCM audio (SPDIF passthrough):

about spdif:

Try Ogo's ReClock 0.99c filter

Might work, video plays at normal speed. I got two problems, (1) there's no audio, (2) there was no audio before installing ReClock (I guess I crippled my system). I used 0.63c and spdif.

@Valex,
Didn't work, video is still accelerated.
