how to encode a dvd?

I am usind rempeg to encode and I am having problems.I have no sound and I dont know how to turn the mpeg into a .VOB. I heard something about remuxing or whatnot. Pleae help. I feel so new to encoding. It is much harder than the small dvd5's are to backup.
