Got weird problem with the Barbarian, seems that in some parts (scenes)of the movie (PAL version) field order is wrong, most parts are just fine. Selecting field operation / swap field order in DVD2AVI fixes the problem in those parts but messes up the rest of the movie with similar effect?
Hard to explain, but those of you who got the movie must know the problem. Mybe there is some easy way to fix this, because the film itself rules the universe and I must have it.

Yes, I would like to buy it but the PAL DVD itself has this effect, its clearly visible when watching the DVD. Itīs a shame īcause otherwise the picture quality is great, I was just asking if somebody happens to know how to get rid of this problem.

I probably won't be able to help you, but i got the DVD, so i'm gonna try ripping it too.
Can you tell me where in the movie things start to screw up?
Why is this movie interlaced anyway? I've never seen an interlaced movie before.

my version of conan (pal) is definitely not interlaced and i dont see a problem with the field order.
i really want to know the frame number where your problem starts.
its the best movie ever and i dont want to see a bad copy out there :D

You should check out for example frames 159065 and 101060, and the conans first fight in the "hole" with the "teeth-guy". Iīll capture couple of frames and attach them.

The missery starts right away with the fox intro

Here are 2 examples, from the same fight-scene and same vob-file. Gnot preview makes them look even worse that they are on film, but now you can see the difference clearly. I know how to de-interlace, but what now when only parts of the movie are interlaced? I Tried even Xmpeg and the "greedy odd" option fixed it pretty well, but my religion tells me not to use Xmpeg...

This is my first post so I have to say a huge thank-you to TheWEF and all the ppl that bring us this awesome software. I've just started encoding over the last month and every problem I've had so far I've been able to find a fix for in these forums. So I'll see if I can return the favor...
Leevi - I'm also a huge fan of the Conan movie and own it myself on DVD, I bought it about 6 months ago on NTSC Region 1. A mate just bought the PAL Version which has the AC3 Soundtrack so I wanted to grab it of him as mine only has a Mono soundtrack. I think we have the same version here because I had exactly the same problems as yourself, I was actually gonna start a thread on it but I did a little testing and came up with a solution.
If in my DVD2AVI project I had the Field Operations set to None, then Field De-Interlaced it in GKnot, I'd end up with an .avs file that I could preview in VirtualDub that was as you said some scenes good, some scenes bad (the bad scenes have the previous frame blended in).
Then If I did exactly the same thing except had Field Operations set to Swap Field Order in DVD2AVI, did the same Field De-interlacing in GKnot I'd end up with an .avs file that was the exact opposite of the original (field ops=none) file. i.e. the scenes that are bad in the first file are good in the second file and the scenes that good in the first file are bad in the second file. So I went through it manually in VirtualDub as you can see pretty easily where it would change from being good to bad. (well easy when there's alot of motion around) Most of the times it changes, I got it down to the frame, but some scenes where there's not so much motion are within the 20 to 30 frame mark. In the end result though its perfect, you can't tell.
So if you're keen I can post the text file of the frame numbers where it changes and you can then just open up your 2 different .avs files in vdub (1 with no field ops and 1 with swaped field order from the DVD2AVI stage) and encode 8 seperate .avi's (I think there was 8 parts in the end)4 avi's for 1 file and 4 from the other, so you're getting all the good bits. Then join then up at the end and you should end up with an .avi file with the exact amount of frames as one of your orig .avs files. mux the ac3 audio and its all good. Its a bit of manual labour but if you know job control in VDub you could probably automate it.
I don't think it's copy protection as you'd think it would be on more DVD's. It nearly had me throwing in the towel. I think it's just an old movie and the way they transfered it to DVD was whack! The reason for this is that a mate of mine tried to rip my version of Conan (NTSC Region 1) a while ago and it was all over the place as well. He ended up throwing in the towel because he came to the conclusion the diff parts of the Movie where in diff Frames per sec. Like some parts were 24fps and some 30? As I said I'm still new to this so I'm probably wrong. Maybe there's other people that have encountered this on other DVD's. Maybe theres a way so you don't have to go through it manually (took about 3 hours to decide on the frames where it changed the 8 times throughout the movie). I think in the end though it was alot easier to rip the PAL than the NTSC.
Let me know if you want the text file and I'll post it
cya:)
