Hello all,
I am capturing video with the ati aiw radeon (720x480 mpeg-2, 16bit stereo 128kb, 44.1mhz audio), when I create a disc using dvdit pe 2.5 it works fine but makes the disc much larger than the original video file, but works perfectly. So I tried to encode it into dolby digital audio instead. this solved my size problem so I can now get 2 hours onto dvd-r but the audio plays faster than the video, kinda sounds like the chipmunks. What am I doing wrong or is this the way dvdit handles ati captured videos? Somebody please help me???

hi dvd-maniac,
You need to convert the 44.1 kHz file to 48 kHz.And feed the 48 kHz wave file to DVDiT.And what version are you using? -use the latest version.

Hope this helps!:)

I am using dvdit Professional Editon version 2.5. Also How do I convert the audio from 44.1 to 48? Do I demux? if so how and with what program?

Is it a .mpeg file with audio+video? If yes, can you change your video capture card settings, if you can then recapture at 48 kHz. If your bringing in a seperate audio file (.wav) and a seperate video file, then just use a program to convert the 44.1 to 48 kHz.There are a lot of programs that can do that.I use dbpoweramp (dbpoweramp.com) dbpoweramp Music Converter. I think there is a audio calculation bug in 2.5-But you can tell.Does the size of the project decrease when you choose Dolby Digital (2/0) and click the update button?Instead of the PCM.To demux the audio from the .mpeg video+audio file, I believe you can use TmPgenc.(I don't know if I spelled it correctly)

Hope this helps!:)

yes it is audio/video mpeg-2 file. I wish that my capture supported 48mhz but it doesn't I am interested in a new capture device but do not know what the best is for what I am trying to do. I wish to fit at least 2 hours of video on a dvd-r with the least possible steps. I would also like to find out if you can make a svcd on a dvd-r and if so how many minutes can fit? I would love any feedback anyone had on this...

Then use TmPgenc to seperte the video and audio files.Use dbpoweramp music converter to convert your 44.1 kHz to 48 kHz.You can put aproximately 2 and a half hours of video with 4mbps consitant bit-rate (which I hate). And have a 128 bitrate for the Dolby D audio.

Also, to mention, have you burned this project to dvd-r/dvd-rw yet. Because you do sometimes get problems when previewing it in DVDiT,but it comes perfect on the actual disc.

I used DVDit Pe for 2 months and it was the first DVD Authoring program I used. I learned a lot about it with talking to other users on the DVDit forum. After that I realized it didn't meet my needs, so I took a jump to Scenarist.
:)

TmPgenc has a trial version and dbpoweramp music converter is free.
I do not know about the svcd issue, but I'm pretty sure that other members can help you.:)

hey thanx deepa for all your help. I am starting to understand that dvdit isn't all that i am looking for either, where did you get scenarist? Does it do 5.1 for input? or just ac3 2 channel?
Also do you know anything about tv signals? Should I capture at 720x480 or should I use a smaller resolution to save space? If so what would be the best resolution to use that would be dvd compliant without losing quality from the tv signal source?

ps: by the way yes I did burn to dvd-r... it does the same thing. Also I just got doen reencoding the captured mpeg file using tmpgenc. I am using the dvd ntsc template for reencode, then I created a volume on hard drive with dvdit and converted to dolby digital. I am not too impressed with the final size though. maybe I need to adjust the settings in tmpgenc to a lower bitrate for the video and audio... Any ideas. Also I guess no demuxing required in tmpgenc it reencodes it together and dvdit seems to like it better...
Thanx for all the advice..

To get Scnearist click here (http://www.sonic.com/resellers/) . Really really expensive though! Scenarist does everything thats why it's in the 15k to 39k USD range. Are you still having the problems?

I guess no, not really. but i still have to play with settings though. I want to fit at least 2 hours onto dvd-r. I will try to capture the video with lower bitrate but when I put it into dvdit will it default to the input video bitrate or will it default to 8 mbit?

Well, you can put 2 and a half hours of video with dolby digital audio, like I said before, If you have a constitant bit rate of 4mbps.DVDit shall not increase the file size of your files than the original. It should decrease the project size when you select Dolby Digital audio 2/0.:)

thanx deepa,

I just downloaded multimedia center 7.7 for my radeon aiw and it captures at 48khz fine now, just released...
I can import that into dvdit just fine with perfect results and when i capture at 4mbit/s I see no quality difference from 8mbit/s. So it looks like I can acheive that 2 1/2 hours just fine. Thank you for all your help.
PS Do you know how low can i go on the bitrate before I run into compatiblity problems with set top boxes or dvdit?
