I am starting this tread as I have not been able to find out any answers specifically about this movie and the issues with splitting it.

I have done a few movies prior to this one with no problems, but...this one seems to have thrown a curve ball that I just can't seem to understand, and I was wondering if someone else had delt with the same issue or could figure it out?

This movie seems to be different than others in that the main movie is not in VTS_01 0r VTS_02 like most movies, but is all the way in VTS_04. (there are only 07 VTS files on this movie)

Not sure if that should make it any harder to work with when splitting or not? But, here is where I am to date with it?

I, of course, ripped the entire movie to the hard drive, np.
Then used IFOedit to split it, by selecting VTS_04.ifo, again, no probs there.

Now, once I have the two halves of the movie in a DVD1 & DVD2 folder. I go ahead, and do as the guides all say, which is copy and paste the VIDEO_TS files as needed in the folder as well.
Then, of course, since I also played the movie in the DVD player of IFO after ripping, it told me it plays Title 1,2, & 4.
So, I then copy those VTS files to the same folder as well.

Then using IFOedit, I opened VIDEO_TS in the DVD1 folder, remove RCE to make region free on all IFO's, then I "get VTS sectors" as instructed by the guides.

No, as one would conclude, the disc should be ready to burn, so...to make sure I open IFOedit, then open VIDEO_TS again, and use DVD preview the test it, as everyone knows that if your movie does not play here, it sure will not play in a set top player.
So, that being said, the movie plays fine, I can skip to different chapters in the movie, etc.

Here is the problem!! When I try to burn it to disc, I launch Prassi, select the folder called VIDEO_TS, which is inside the DVD1 main folder, load a disc, and click to burn it.
Then, of course, Prassi checks the contents of the folder to make sure all the necessary files are there, and returns an error to me. (have tried multiple blank DVDR's also)
Now, this error would imply that there is a file missing that would be required by the set top player I presume, as to why it will not go ahead and burn the movie. But what I am missing is, what file it could possibly be?

I have gone over it several times, and reread all the guides on splitting, and according to them, I have placed all the correct files in the folder?
And further more, if it was not set up correctly, it surely would not play fine with the DVD player in IFOedit?

So.....since I have reached the end of my ability to understand what file it could be wanting, I figured I would put this out to the community for a little extra help!!

Below is a full listing of the files in the DVD1 folder, so please take a look and let me know what I am doing wrong or missing?

Also, if anyone else has experienced similar issues with this particular movie, please explain how you were able to resolve them!!

Ok....here goes!

DVD1:
VIDEO_TS.ifo
VIDEO_TS.bup
VIDEO_TS.vob
VTS_01_0.vob
VTS_01_0.ifo
VTS_01_0.bup
VTS_01_1.vob
VTS_02_0.vob
VTS_02_0.ifo
VTS_02_0.bup
VTS_02_1.vob
VTS_04_0.vob
VTS_04_0.ifo
VTS_04_0.bup
VTS_04_1.vob (main movie)
VTS_04_2.vob (main movie)
VTS_04_3.vob (main movie)
VTS_04_4.vob )main movie)

There they are, so...please feel free to point out if there is something I am overlooking that is needed!!

Thanks for the assistance in advance!

Have you tried creating an image file with IFOEdit then burning with Prassi? Your files seem to be in order.

No, I have not tried that simply because I have never had to in the past.

All the other DVD's I have ripped and corrected, I have been able to burn them just fine from the VIDEO_TS folder???

Is there a reason that you think that way might work when it will not burn it with the method I just mentioned?

Just curious if that makes a difference or not???

I do appreciate your help, as I have been beating my head against a wall trying to understand what file needs to be changed for Prassi to let it go ahead and burn to disc?

Thanks!

Well, I've burned with Prassi both ways. It seems that burning an image file (created with IFOEdit) ENSURES that you have a dvd compliant file structure. I have sucessfully copied this movie, but I have no need for menus/subs/extras, so the method I used is much different than what is listed in the guides. I would give the image file a shot. Maybe burn to a DVD-RW so you don't waste another disc. GOOD LUCK!:D

Thanks for the advice!!!

At this point, I am willing to try anything different!!

I will give it a shot, and let you know?

Actually, not sure what I would create an image file with, can you do that with IFOedit? As I mentioned, have never had a need to do it in the past? Do you do this with all your back up's? If so, why? Do you find it works better?

Hopefully that will work, although I would still like to know exactly what part of that file structure that Prassi does not like, so I can, at least, know how not to do it again?
Kinda frustrating, just not knowing!

Thanks again!

There are way too many variables that could be wrong with your file structure to tell you just by looking at them. If creating an image file does not solve your problem, it's probably time to start over. You are correct that if your project plays in IFOEdit's player, it should be good to go. Let me know your results with the image file.

Wake,

OK..now I am really confused??? I did make the image as you mentioned?

But, the odd thing is that I tried it on several other movies as well, and it works fine, the image file is usually about the same size as all the files in VIDEO_TS.

Except with Behind Enemy Lines....I made an image of the VIDEO_TS.ifo file, and the image is coming out only about 212,810 MB
So, somehow, it is missing the entire movie in it's image creation.

I tried it by opening VTS_04.ifo, which is where the main movie is, and created the image from there, but...same size file is created??

Obviously, there is some thing missing...but...I am stumped as to what? I have all the files in the VIDEO_TS folder, check it again in the DVD player in IFOedit, and it plays fine, then create the image...and all I get is a 212,810MB image file??

Any clues as to what is wrong??

Thanks!

   Hmmm....at this point I am at a loss. If I were you I would start this project over. It must be some kind of DVD navigation problem, but IFOEdit's player should give you this error when you try and play the movie. Sorry I couldn't be more help.:(

Wake, I am as stumped as you?

I have tried it from all angles, when I try to make an image using any of the .ifo files, the result is the same, the image file is only 212,810MB or so. Which is obviously not the movie? I am not sure what it sees to create the image from as all the files are in the VIDEO_TS folder, which I thought it just made an image of everything in that folder?

But, as you mentioned, if it was messed up, it should not play in IFOedit's DVD player, but it does, just perfect. I can skip to different chapters, etc....???

I am really at a loss as to what to try next????

Have you ever run across any movies, that the main movie was not until VOB_04 or so? Like this movie? That is the only difference I have seen between this movie and most others? Well, that..and the fact that it also has the DTS tracks on it?? Not sure why that would make a difference though?

Let me know if you come up with anything else that I might try to resolve??

Thanks again for your help!!

This is not a very straightforward method, but here is how I split DVD-9s. Note: I'm only concerned with the main movie. I only do this with DTS titles, since SpruceUp can only handle AC3. I have neither the time or patience to learn how to use Scenarist:scared:

Use VOBrator to determine what VOB IDs your movie is contained in.
Most are an even number 1,2 / 1,2,3,4 / 1-20, etc.

Use VOB extras in IFOEdit to strip streams and keep the 1st half of the main movie VOB ids. Do this again for the 2nd half.

On the 2nd half, open VTS_01_0.IFO and make sure there is not a cell before your first chapter. If there is, you have to adjust this in IFOedit. Open VTS_PGCITI then open VTS_PGC_1. Scroll down to PGC program map. Double click Program_1: Entry cell number and change the value to 1. Save and exit IFOEdit.

Get VTS Sectors on both parts and burn.
