Is there a subtitle plugin for TMPGEnc like the one for VirtualDub?

Not that I know of.

I recently spent a week trying to get subtitles to work and will try to save you some time.


Option 1 (Selectable Subs):

This option invloves using Subrip to make an OGT file and then mux with I-Author Multiplexer. This requires you use I-Author, which kills the great VCD-Easy way. doom9 has a guide which walks you through this option. Careful of bitrate maxes...I-Author Multiplexer is picky about this. This option didn't work for me personally.

Option 2 (Selectable Subs):

Encode, and split/mux with bbmpeg like normal. Then use the Subrip guide, as it is shown here on doom9.net, to rip the subs into .bmp files. Then be sure to use the split function of Subrip to separate the .txt sub-index files to match the times of your muxed .mpg files. Be sure to use the Phillips format, and edit out everything above and including the [List] line out of each of the saved split sub-index files. Then use Winsubmux to add the subs that Subrip made to each .mpg file. Then burn like normal and try to see if these selectable subs will work on your standalone player. Mine did not, so I was only left with Option 3.


Option 3 (Permanent/Burnt-In Subs):

This you must use Virtualdub and the VobSub plugin to frameserve to TMPG and then encode. Then mux and burn as normal. The doom9 TMPG guide already covers this in great detail.


Now, there are probably more options than this, but I didn't try them.
