Real Producer Preview 9 allows "surround sound at bitrates from 44 kbps upwards".
Has anyone tried creating a Real Video file with surround sound from a DVD with 5.1 AC3? What is the downmixing like (since it creates a Dolby Pro Logic file, ie one with 4 channel sound)? What kind of bitrates does it need for good audio quality? Does the downmixing work correctly for playback on a 2 speaker system?
I'm currently trying to figure out how to get 5.1 sound on 1 CD rips and I really can't find a good way (AC3 at 256 which is what several people have recommended sounds bad (12 kHz lowpass), Vorbis doesn't have channel coupling or more importantly a downmixer yet, AAC doesn't have a Direct Show Filter (correct me if I'm wrong here)).
