Hi,

1) I record to PicVideo mjpeg format (q=18) from a digital satellite receiver (no disturbance) with 384x288 resolution. Then I compress to DivX5 1-pass with B-frames, keyframes every 5 sec.
What bitrate would you suggest as maximal for this conversion? I mean a bitrate that anything above it wouldn't change the visible quality of the movie. For an average movie. I don't mind the size of the file very much unless increasing it is useless.

2) And what data rate would be as high that I sholdn't use B-frames that would only deteriorate the
quality?

Best wishes,

sssorro

You can find this bitrate yourself by encoding in quality based 100% mode. Your movie won't get bigger than the one you get with that option, whatever you do!

DivX is not like MPEG-1 or -2, it gets saturated on a specific bitrate.
Example: a movie XYZ gets saturated with 3000kbps. Even if you setup 5000kbps, you'll get at the end the same size as if you have encoded with 3000kbps.
