Hi

is there an easy way of determine what type of interlacing filter i should use when encoding my PAL vobs.
I am not happy with the results so i guess i am using the wrong ones
i use smartdeinterlace , which slows my encoding down by 40%.
or is there an app out there that can tell what type of interlace the movie is or even better if it is interlaced.

thank you

Most PAL dvd -- not all, but most -- are not actually interlaced.

You can quickly and easily determine if a vob is interlaced: find a scene with movement in it, and go through the scene one frame at a time. You'll be able to see the interlacing, if it exists, by going through only one or two seconds worth of movement.

This method also works well to determine if NTSC content was Telecined.

EDIT: There is a deinterlace filter specifically for PAL, if needed. I haven't tried it, as my vobs are all NTSC.
