Arky,

You just struck a vein of gold.

LynxDv are a very reliable source of information / products / service.

I have had several dealings with this company recently, and found them to offer excellent service and value for money.

Highly recommended.

HomerJ do you know anything about the quality/compatability of their own line of DVD-Rs? Price is pretty alright... :)

Zeppeliner,

I've used several of their "Lynx Silver DVD-R", and had them working on the following :-

Pioneer 444
Pioneer 525
PS2 (version 5)
PS2 (version 4)
X Box (version unknown)

I have also had a couple of "Duff" ones, but these were in my early days of burning.

I am however, about to try the Datasafe version, just to see what the difference is. I am having problems burning with Nero 5.5.8.2. I normally burn using DVD Movie Factory. I'm fairly sure it's Nero and not the discs but want to make sure.

Ian is a pretty straight guy, he cancelled an order from Mitsui recently because they messed him about with the spec at the last moment.

Do a search on the "Computer Video" web site forum. His service is second to none. (A rare thing these days).

Homer, How can you find which version of the PS2 one has? I am looking to pick one up and playing DVD-R is important to me. I read that one can always get the official Sony remote with the CD upgrade to be able to play DVD-Rs. What do you know about any of this? Thanks

SergeantD,

PS2 Version, as follows :-

"UK PS2 Versions

Version 3
10 Screws on base of the PS2

Version 4
8 Screws on base of the PS2 + Electrical Hazard Warning

Version 5
8 Screws on base of the PS2 + Electrical Hazard Warning + letter 'R' after the model number

Version 6
The web is alive with references to a new 'V6' version of the console. There is NO V6 version released yet, this is just a V5 version with the motherboard connector for the front panel button connecting ribbon reversed. All Driver versions remain the same, therefore this is just a V5 variant and does not warrant classification as a 'V6"

I picked this up from the web tonight, not my own work, but my PS2 does have the letter "R" after the version number, and I have been told by someone else independantly that my version was version 5, so, I'm fairly confident that the information is correct.

Two other sites which also have DVD-R compatibility tables are:

www.dvds4u.biz
www.samron-tech.com

Stumbled across these while wondering about my NAD T531 - according to NAD it isn't DVD-R compatible, but these sites reckon it is :D
Haven't found a disc to check it with yet :sly:
