Hello. I've transcoded a few longer movies with CCE at bitrates in the 3-4000 range. They play fine in IFOedit's DVD player, but are unplayable in Power DVD and my standalone. Is this because of the lower bitrate I'm using not being DVD compliant? BTW, I've had sucess with this method with over 50 movies. (CCE and Spruceup)

Thanks

There is no "minimum" bitrate specified in the DVD spec. A bitrate of 3-4Mbps is well within the acceptable window of a good encode. I think that your problem lies elsewhere. Try using PowerDVD's OPEN MEDIA FILES option and see if it will play your raw .M2V or .MPG files.

What medium are you attempting to play them from?

DVD-R?

CDR?

CDRW?

...or Hard Disk?

Thanks for the replys guys. It must've been something with IFOEdit creating the new IFOs. I burned the DVD-R directly from within Spruce Up, and it played perfectly. Strange though....

Original method:

Create DVD2AVI project
Encode video with CCE
Use pulldown.exe on CCE created mpv file
Import m2v + ac3 into spruce up
Export titleset
create new IFOs with IFOEdit
get VTS sectors
create image file
burn with prassi

usually works since I don't care about menus or chapters. Do you guys think I would be better off using the Spruce Up created IFOs? BTW, the only reason I was creating new IFOs with IFOEdit is because IFOEdit's player wouldn't play my project unless I did.

Thanks for the help!

I guess I don't understand why you needed to create IFOs with IFOEdit in the first place. You have IFOs already created from SpruceUp when you did the Export Titleset... You could have burned it directly from SpruceUp or from Prassi PrimoDVD.

jdobbs - When I first started with this (simple) method, I would try playing the Spruce Up project with IFOEdit's internal player, and it wouldn't work. Usually, if a project wouldn't play on IFOEdit's player, it wouldn't play on my stand alone. I can see now that I must have been doing something else wrong. Thanks.
