View Full Version : I am having a 16:9 problem

I am trying to reauthor the movie "Evolution." When I watch the original DVD in my player it is letterboxed. When I ripped it and went to go to reauthor is the cropping is not there. I was trying to see if the movie had multiple angles but I don't think it does. I loaded the .vobs into DVD2AVI and it says that the movie is 16:9 but when I preview it the cropping isn't there either. Had someone come across this before? I think I just might use TMPGEnc to add the black bars at the top and bottom. Can someone help me?

are you using the word "cropping" to mean letterbox?

if yes, then is the image "squished" horizontally?

if yes, then the video is anamorphic.

what are the pixel dimensions of the video that you've extracted?

answer these questions and I'll probably be able to help out.

The picture is not squished horizontally. It looks perfect except that I want the black bars at the top and bottom of the movie. I tried using TMPGEnc but when I did that I had to cut away pixels. So, peoples heads were chopped off.. Maybe there is an AVISynth command I can use to resize the picture to make it anamorphic.

I also asked what are the pixel dimensions of the video you've extracted...

sorry, they are 720 x 480. The source is NTSC 16:9

Well from the sounds of it you might just try putting the video in a DVD authoring app and setting the 16:9 flag so it knows that the source is 16:9. Burn a DVD-RW and then the player should read the 16:9 flag and automatically insert the letterbox.

Try this, I have a feeling it will work. Always has for me.

Post the results...

I just tried that earlier today and when I burned it out to dvd to play it in my standalone, still not anamorphic... thanks for the hints though I think I will just use an AVISynth script to resize and add the black bars.. thanks for your help
