Can someone help me to understand the audio part of vcd's I have ripped and burend about 50 vcds using smart ripper, dvd2avi and tmpg
and the sound is ok except it isnt dolby surround... should it be??
should I be using the 2channel track or the 6 channel one??
I stopped doing the 41khz downmix because my kenwood soverign dvd player handles the 48khz just fine.. should I do the dolby surround downmix or not??
Confused...

- 2.0 should be better than 5.1
- if you don't have to, don't waste precious time on downsampling to 44.1
- ac3's surround downmix, with mp2's stereo coupling

So if I choose the 2 channel versus the 6 channel track in dvd2svcd I'll get dolby surround?

edit:
but then I came across this...

"3) AC3->MP3. which AC3 stream should i decode ? 5.1 or 2.0 ?
the 2.0 stream has a better mix for 2 channels (stereo), than the 5.1 to 2.0 downmix features offered by AC3 decoding tools. therefore, it should be the best to work with the 2.0 stream.
there is only one case when transcoding the 5.1 stream is better :
if your computer has connection to a dolby pro-logic decoder, you could use a surround downmix, and then your dolby pro-logic decoder would reconstruct the multichannel audio. "

I guess I'll just ask what I really want to know. What's the simpliest/best way to get sorround sound of some kind using DVD2SVCD?

By the way, this is my first post, so thanks in advance for all the greta help on the forums, and to everyone that works on these programs for the benefit of the rest of us.

SO?? If I record the 2 channel it is not surround sound and if I record the 5.1 and do the dolby downmix and play it back using a sound card which supports surround sound I will get surround sound playback??? is there no way to get surround sound using a stand alone DVD player??

Thanks for all the help.. I have learned so much from this forum.

5.1 would be nice, and actually I'm going to be getting a phillips player, however right now I would be happy with good ol Dolby ProLogic. All I want is a definate center channal for Dialogue.
