Using gknot to encode "other" sources.?

Hi,

Does anyone know what steps I should follow in Gknot if I wanted to make a multi-pass divx file out of an .mpeg file that I have already got on my hdd. (ie not from a DVD source)

I'd like to re-compress these mpegs using gknot to a) shrink the size but maintain fair quality and b) convert to divx format. The mpegs (Episodes of the TV Show "24" captured from Digital Satellite TV) are all around the 350-500megs.

I know I will have to start the gknot process from the point of importing the dvd2avi project, but since there is no .vob to convert, I'm not sure how to proceed.

Could anyone offer some suggestions, or perhaps point me to a guide detailing this concept?

This might work:

Step 1) Draft an .avs script, so that your mpeg can be "played" as if it were an avi file:LoadPlugin("C:\PROGRA~1\GORDIA~1\mpeg2dec.dll")
