The problem I have is with the final file, it has no sound on play back! Playing the pre-mux.mp3 (~100M) file reveals a perfectly good sound track.

I tried using Nandub to do a Direct Copy mux of the pre-mux.avi (~700M) & pre-mux.mp3 (~100M), this creates a final.avi file of ~800M, but once again with no sound. Checking the final.avi shows a nSamplesPerSec 48000\ nChannels 2\ bit rate of zero. So the bit rate is the problem.

I tried Full Processing the audio in Nandub but got a final file with a very slow display rate and distorted sound (hey some sound at least).

What am I doing wrong?

PS Haha, I found a bodge until someone can answer me.I take the pre-mux.avi and ac3 from GK, and I give it to Besweet and VirtualDub to finish the job off using wav as the sound input file instead of mp3!

Posting a response to my own question, how sad am I?

OK, fixed the problem, and the problem was I was using WMP6.4 to play back, it doesn't seem to understand VBR\CBR mp3. Which means the solution was to the problem was to – big drum roll here - use DivX Player. Man, I knew that program would be useful someday!

Huh? Media Player 6.4 can't play avi's that have vbr mp3 audio?

/me wonders what that funny noise is coming out of his speakers when he watches movies, that happens to be in sync with the people talking.

so far, I have watched every divx movie with media player 6.4 and it could handle all audio formats. From the old divx audio to cbr mp3, vbr mp3, double audio-stream vbr mp3 and AC3.

Probably you should re-install media player, maybe some codecs were messed up somehow.

Ah, now you come out play, I wondered when someone would answer my post. I draw your attention to-

"Checking the final.avi shows a nSamplesPerSec 48000\ nChannels 2\ bit rate of zero. So the bit rate is the problem"

I don't know why, but my 6.4 will not play any (I've tried others) divx with mp3 audio. If anyone knows how to get 6.4 using the mp3 codec, I'd be happy to know, as Player can play mp3 divx files. Ta.

I get the same problem on my other PC, 6.4 doesn't playback mp3.

OS is Win2k, sp2 (both machines).

PS otherwise GK is great, I'm getting good NTSC (both types) and PAL (cough, cough) backups.
