Hi all.
I have been messing around with the pod race scene from SW phantom menace (my standard clip for comparisons etc.) and have spotted a few things which may or may not surprise. I have the clip as a vob which contains only the video and english audio. I have played it back in PowerDVD XP and windows media player using the Cyberlink DVD decoder. The quality in windows media player is by far superior than in PowerDVD which seem odd to me since it seems to be using the same decoder (as shown in properties). The edges of curved objects in PowerDVD show quite ugly stepping.
Also I have made an Avisynth script from a d2v file for the same vob. Using simple resize, no crop and SimpleResize(1024,576) to give the same final resolution video whem played in win media player, the quality is again clearly better.
No question really, just that the commercial software seem to do a less than great job.
