A very small question,
Can we encode quicktime 5 trailers .mov into SVCD with with sound with CCE or TMPG directly? Or do we have to use PREMIERE?
thnx for the quick answer ;)
EDIT: I've found a way to do it with TMPG. But there's no audio. I guess audio has to be done separately?

Myself, I am not familiar with the compression method used in MOV format content.
However, out of curiousity, I did run some tests, and it is possible!!
I have Quick Time Player Pro 5.0...
I am a registered user, so I don't know if it will work with the free player or not, but I assume so.
1. Open your .MOV file in QuickTime.
2. goto File > Export and choose the Movie to AVI setting
3. Choose to use default settings, but still go to options.
4. Click the Video checkbox, then click settings.
5. I used the following settings:
Compressor:Cinepak
Millions of Colors
Quality:Best
frames per second 24
Unchecked the remaining checkboxes
(You can, however, expirement with your compressor type.)
For instance, there is an option for DV - NTSC, or DV - PAL... but with the small .MOV I was using, I couldn't get the end MPG, VCD to appear correctly. I assume it was because I wasn't using a standard sized width/height settings, but try your own testing.
6. Press OK
7. Now click the Sound checkbox, then click settings.
8. I used the following settings:
Compressor:None
Rate: 44.100 kHz
size: 16-bit
Use: Stereo
(These settings are almost mandatory (excl. 48.0 khz), otherwise you'll encounter problems with BBMpeg or BeSweet... I did every other method BUT this!)
9. Press OK, then OK again
10. Now, save your newly formated AVI somewhere to your HDD.
I named mine Sample.AVI and put it on my desktop.
From here, DVD2SVCD 1.0.9 b2 will pretty much do the rest! I will still walk you through my test, and then post my log just in case it helps.
11. Open DVD2SVCD.
12. on the MISC Tab, select AVI as the input file type. I convert to VCD, so if you want, select MPEG-1 as the output file type. I HAVE NOT TESTED on MPEG-2
13. The rest of my settings you can view from my log.
14. Most important is to use Go > Preview Video (Still Picture) feature on Conversion Tab.
Make sure and select Sample.AVI as your input file.
On the tests I ran, my AVI was inverted, so I had to use the Flip Vertical feature.
15. Play with these settings till you find a quality you like.
16. Now, your video and sound should be set so that DVD2SVCD, or in our case, AVI2SVCD should not come across any problems. Unfortunately, it's not guarunteed--but hey, I tried!
17. Click Go > Start Conversion!
And from here, you should know the rest. Just wait, and hopefully when you come back you'll have a ready to burn BIN/CUE file.
[note] you may wish to play around with the settings on step 5, and then again on step 15. This will decide the quality of your end (S)VCD.
Good luck, and repost with your results!
Possibly (someday) dvd2svcd will add yet ANOTHER feature to this wonderful app, MOV2SVCD!!!

what is the size of the MOV...?? do you have a log to post or what??
are you sure you had sound to begin with...
(i.e. when you watch sample.avi, does it have sound?) ... it should, otherwise the end result won't either! ;)

I lost my log. And the program stopped toward the end cause i ran out of disk space.
I tried again with CCE ONLY, loading the .mov into it, and encoding. And the result is a sketched to full screen mpv file with no sound.
Source file: original-Spiderman-WTC-trailer.mov, 22mb. Yes it has sound ;)

...easy answer...
First we extract the sound:
1. open the .mov in QuickTime again
2. goto File > Export
3. for Export: choose Sound to Wave
4. Use 44.1 kHz 16-bit Stereo
5. Save as Sample.wav and put it on your base C:\ drive... i.e. C:\Sample.wav
Naturally, there are probably more preferred ways of extracting the sound, I am just giving you one method. Just ensure, regardless, that your sound is in the right bitrate, etc, so it can successfully be converted to MP2 by BeSweet.
Then we convert the sound:
1. Click your Start Button
2. Click Run...
3. copy and paste the blue text below into the open Run Dialog box and press Enter....
"C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\BeSweet\BeSweet.exe" -core( -input "C:\sample.wav" -output "C:\Sample.mp2" -logfile "C:\Sample.log" ) -ota( -g max ) -2lame( -e -b 224 -m s )
Note: in order for the above to work, consider two things.
1. you must have your sample.wav saved to c:\sample.wav as told above.
2. you must have "BeSweet.exe" located in "C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\BeSweet\BeSweet.exe" (the default directory)
Then we mix it all together:
1. open TMPGEnc...
2. goto File > MPEG Tools
3. choose Simple Multiplex...
4. Next, choose the type of MPEG you want
(i.e. I use MPEG-1 system automatic and it can be burned to a VCD 2.0 directly with Nero)
5. For your Video Input, select the *.mpv file
6. For the Audio Input, select the Sample.mp2 found at C:\sample.mp2
7. For the Output, select a location and a name for your new MPG file
8. Hit Run!
9. You are now done...you should have a MPEG file mixed with the image from the CCE MPV file and then the same WAV extracted from QuickTime, converted to MP2...
did this work?.... it should have.

Wonderful.
Thnx alot Mike, i like your red numbers.. ;)
It works great. I just made the HULK teaser, and it looks not too bad. Now i can add it in front of my movies :)
Again thanks.
Btw, do u know much about CCE?
The source is 480x360 and i want CCE to add black bars so the output mpv would be 480x480 but with the right aspect ratio.

great!
I had a feeling it would work! ;)
I'm glad to hear all is well... to tell you the truth, I just got done downloading the same Spiderman trailer (22MB) and am going to attempt the project myself...I have also just downloaded the Matrix: RELOADED teaser .MOV so I will plan to convert the two of them...
good practice, ya know?
unfortunately, I don't know jack shit about CCE... I am an avid user of TMPG :( ... honestly, I don't even know how to get the MPV file you ended up with...
if you could help me on that one, it'd be great! (I do have CCE 2.5 SP if necessary)
thanks man, and sorry I don't know more.... maybe check this out for reference

just so you know... I just downloaded the Matrix: Reloaded Trailer...
it was a 24MB .MOV file....
and, as described using the original process above, I now have a burned VCD of the original MOV in my hand!
so far, the method appears to work great!!! the ended MPG was 13MB vs. the original 24MB....but the AVI of the 24MB MOV was a whopping 220+ MB file! sheesh!
anyway, the only additional problem I have come across is if the MOV is protected, QuickTime will not allow you to export and/or save it in any other format. this is possible a level where Premiere or some other means may come in handy!
until next time?

Tell me a protected clip, and i'll try my little trick see if it works..
MikeReid
9th June 2002, 19:18
hey daehkcid ... (nice nick... hehe)
anyway... the protected .MOV file is the 22MB SpiderMan trailer...
i've tried even importing into Premiere, but it wont allow it?
what do you recommend?
[EDIT:]
okay.... this is what I did...
I downloaded a program called RADTools and it converted to AVI fine, but the sound was protected and could not convert that.
so I loaded the original MOV file in TMPGEnc and processed JUST the audio to MP2 file.
so now I have an AVI w/ no sound and then an MP2 file...
from here I don't know how to go about mixing the two...
basically, what I did was run DVD2SVCD on the soundless AVI, and copy the MP2 file to the DVD2SVCD Movie output directory..then, during the Video Encoding, I simply renamed the Encoded_audio_1.mp2 to Encoded_audio_1.mp2.bak and then I renamed the extracted.mp2 to Encoded_audio_1.mp2....
anyway, everything created perfectly, and the end result was a BIN/CUE that was completely in-synch!... amazing!!!
Fortunately, I don't deal with MOV files enough to make a big fuss about it, but I can successfully convert to VCD now.
Unfortunately, I don't want to always have to be here to rename the temp.mp2 to Encoded_audio_1.mp2, etc...
maybe your way is better?
