VERY wierd WMP Error Msg...!

"The operation cannot be performed because the pins are not connected." (Error=80040209)

I get this message when trying to play a movie I just made. It seems to only happen with this movie when I add two tracks, it doesn't matter in which order the tracks are in. If my memory serves me right, this movie was playing fine before but suddenly something isn't right; now it happens everytime to this particular movie. Any ideas?

I used to get that message back when I was using Win98 and installed the Ogg Subtitle filter.

You should render that movie with GraphEdit to see what connection can't be made. That will tell you which filter you will need to re/un-install.

I'm not sure which guide refers to the Graphedit, I don't know how to use it...

Okay I've checked out Graphedit and here's what it sort of looks like:

divx.avi output->AVI Splitter
.......................Stream 00->Divx Decoder Filter->Video Render
.......................Stream 01->MPEG Layer3 Decoder->Nowhere.
.......................Stream 02->MPEG Layer3 Decoder 0002->Input 02 Morgan Stream Switcher-> Default DirectSound Device.

Some of these also cross through each other. For instance the line between the Divx Decoder to Video Render crosses with MPGE Layer3 Decoder 0002 and MSS. The only box that doesn't lead anywhere else is the first audio stream (01)... What can I do to fix this?

I have compared this with another movie I made with two audio tracks successfully. In this other one, there are similar crosses, except the MPEG Layer3 Decoder (Stream 01) connects with Input 01 of Morgan Stream Switcher, which connects with the DS device... Hmm I could connect this with the other movie but it creates this ACM Wrapper in between the first audio track and input 01 of MSS; but also,how can I save it as a whole (not as a 10kb graph file that I have to launch)?

Uhh.. sorry but I'm not exactly following how I'm supposed to use Graphedit to find out with plugin I need to re/uninstall? All I know is, the first audio stream is not connected to anything, what does that mean? What does that tell me about my currently existing plugins? This is really frustrating me...!

I had the "pins are not connected" error as well. Dragging and dropping my unplayable movie into graphedit produced a similar graph to what EvilFoo is describing, with the first audio stream not connected to the Morgan Stream Switcher filter. Reinstalling the filter and rebooting did not work.

The problem turned out to be the sampling frequency of my two audio tracks. My 1st audio track was 48khz while the director's comments track, which I compressed the crap out of, was 32Khz. Using the the --resample 48 switch in LAME when reencoding the second audio track forced the sampling frequency to 48khz and when I muxed stuff together it worked.

I did some more tests, and I found that as long as the frequencies of the two tracks were the same (ie both 32khz or both 48khz) it worked, but not in any combination when they were different. I wonder if this is a limitation of .avi file format or the way Nandub does muxing?
