CCE freezing problem. [Archive]

Well, I'm apparently also suffering from this problem. So I'd just like to report.

I had this movie, which frooze at 1%, it did that when I had two movies in the "encode-list", so I removed one, and it continued beyond 1%, but it did, however freeze at 21%.
This same movie, is a movie which I have encoded before, but without temporalsmoother, I wasn't satisfied with the result, so I added temporalsmoother.
As said, it frooze at 21%, so I tried installing new VIA drivers, new AVISynth version and I tried disabling the anti-noise in CCE.
It always frooze.
Then, I tried to disable temporalsmoother, and now it went beyond 21%.

I guess I could live with that, but do you know of any way so I can compensate the loss of temporalsmoother?

Without temporal smoother... it frooze at 41% :/

Just going to report, after trying about just everything there is to try when it comes to the CCE freezing problem, I decided to try ConvertToRGB() function in avs, and FINALLY my encode was completed! :)

So if you're having problems, atleast try this, and, well if it worked, report back.

Hmmm... interesting, Destarded - well in that case, I wonder if the following CCESP setting has any influence over freezing?:

Luminance Level

16 to 235
0 to 255

If you're encoding DVD rips, I suggest you select the "16 to 235", if you're not already doing so. Of course, it may not make a blind bit of difference to your freezing problem, I'm just brainstorming!

I've been doing DVDrips, and I've been using 16 to 235. Haven't tried 0 to 255 though.

Peoples,

I ran into that same CCE 26% complete problem on one of the DVD's I was backing up. I tried changing a number of the settings as suggested in numerous threads within Doom9, but after 4 attempts I switched to tmpgenc. Tmpgenc was successful and I got a wonderful result. The first CD from the same box set was successfully encoded using CCE. I have since backed up 3 more DVDs using CCE and had no problems.

Destarded - did you figure out what was wrong or did you give up?

Well, using ConvertToRGB() at the end of my avisynth fixed it, atleast for me. Tried it yet?

the athlon cpus are making some scans or something which causes crashs of cce2.5..(don`t know)

with this tool its possible to turn off these checks...

but also it has a build in cr**k for cce so i can`t give you a link..

maybe try some search on the web...

Does using ConvertToRGB() impact the quality of the encode, or excessively lengthen the encode times? Just wondering if I should put this on by default, or only after the encode freezes.

It doesn't affect the quality of your movie, but it will encode slower.

destarded, what are the min/avg/max bitrates that you are using?

i had the same problem. but i think the cause is the avg & max being too close to each other..
try using an avg thats atleast 100 less than the max..

at the time of the crash, I was using max 2496 avg 2398 and min 0.
But as I've stated, adding ConvertToRGB() solved it, so I don't mind anymore :)

Put it as the last line in your avisynth file (.avs)

I can't ensure you that it will work, I however, had alot of success with it, until recently that is, a movie which refused to encode.

But try it out and good luck!

@destarded sorry to hear your problem as came back. I was reading through this thread and i didnt see your answer to a questions i have. Have you ran any tests on the memory? or system? If you have 2 sticks of ram in "only asking because i'm not sure if you do or not:)" but if you have 2 sticks have you tried doing encodes that have given you problems with just 1 stick? Also make sure you have the operating system updated to the fullest. I have heard that the service pack 2 for windows 2000 has given people troubles also. Not sure as it never has given me any but just thought i'd shoot that out 2 you.

i had a CCE freezing problem... all i did was get the latest version of the program and runs find for me...i am running a farely new system so i decided to run the newest program for just compatibility reason..hope it helps ;)

Hm, well, yes I have tested using different ram-sticks, always without luck though.
I'm currently running win2k sp2, so that could be a prob, but that's just speculations I suppose? (As everything else is in this mather).
I have also been using vfapiconv to make a pseudo avi, without success. However! I'm currently testing the process of frameserving from virtualdub. So far it has worked above expectations.
I'll post a msg when/if it starts crashing again :)

Well I've tried everything from above and my encode still
froze at 5% during the multi-pass VBR. Then I realized that
I just recently installed Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 and have
come to believe that this is the main culprit. Imagine that,
a Microsoft product messing something up!!!

I have encoded many SVCDs prior to this and also re-authored
dvds with CCE but it just now started after SP3 that I have
begun to have problems.

Anyone else out there encounter this?
