Annoying problem with AverTV Studio card

Hi all!

I have an AverTV STudio card, model 203 and it works OK, considering what it cost (relatively little). I use it with the bundled software-vcr, which is called AverTV, and I capture in 704x576 or 720x575 MPEG-2(PAL). One issue that annoys me a lot is that is has a setting for unlimited capturing which doesn't work. From the manual:

"AverTV automatically looks into your system and calculates the amount of disk space available for recording. In this example, the maximum available time for recording is 27 minutes and 20 seconds. Selecting Duration enables the user to manually set the length of time to record. Selecting Unlimited will record until all available hard disk space is used up."

I select unlimited, but it stops recording after the file size reaches approx 4 gigs. I am running Windows 2000 and I definitely have NTFS partioned drives with enough space. Does anyone else have this problem and have any suggestions? Aver's support is awfully bad.

The reason the file stops at 4 gig is that Windows 2000/XP can only page 4 gig of memory per file. you will need to find a way to capture two or more separate files. if you have any more questions let me know

I just captured a 45 gig file yesterday! Full Pal into MJPEG.
That worked great! I've got WinXP running and used iuVCR for capture.

What are you using for capturing?

may be the problem your having is just a fluke, windows does have memory paging limits, put the people at microsoft must have found a way around it :)i am also usng AverTV studio to capture i have not had any problems with mine. if my original idea just confused you i am sorry it was just an idea, and it happened to be wrong(lol)

And Swan's Aver card stunk and is now buried among the rubble in the basement.:-)
Since that post I had two more capture cards, a Cinergy (Philips chip, never got it to work) and a Pinnacle (BT878, much better drivers, software and much better picture quality than the Aver) and now have a Canopus ADVC-100. My Aver was faulty, btw. But the issue I had with the fili size limit was definitely related to "AverTV", the supplied software for capturing.
