What is optimal length of SVCD

I was wondering what the optimal amount of time you should put on an SVCD. Is there a point beyond which you lose picture quality? I noticed in the default settings, you can get 76 min. on one disk but only 125 min. ( 62 min. each) on two discs. Why is that?

i think you have to do some test which quality you accept..
for me its up to max 60mins on a 80 min. disc...
its possible to press 2hours of movie on 1cd the quality isn`t aceptable..
the settings in the bitrate tab a selctable so you can do everything you want( f.e. put 140 mins onto 2discs)
the default are suggestions by dvd2svcd...

so do some tests for your own....than you will see..

ps:every dvd2svcd conversion looses the original quality cause you compress the movie...ok mosten you don`see a difference to the original but there is one...

orbit-r is right. quality vs size is a personal matter. for me it is 55 min max in 800 mb.

I guess it depends on the material you are encoding. Some factors need to be taken into account. With fullscreen 4:3, you'll fit less at the same quality as when it is a widescreen movie that you add borders to.

It also depends on the number and quality of the audio tracks.
Dark movies (i.e. Harry Potter) do better.
I've done 80 min wih one 128 Audio on a CDR 90, but that is about it. I use 5 pass for all my encoding.
