Please follow the forum rules.
9) Use a title that describes the content of your post. Don't use all caps or special characters to draw attention.
Usually DVD2SVCD will pick the correct aspect ratio for you. If you want to double check go to Amazon.com, cdnow.com, bn.com or any of the other video store sites and read the information for what the aspect ratio is.
Letterbox is usually a masked 16:9 encode that actually is a 4:3 encode since the black bars are part of the video itself. Anamorphic is always 16:9, full screen is always 4:3.

I think he is referring to the fact that you used 4 ?s in your post and only one was needed.
The SVCD should look exactly like the DVD unless you specifically change the settings. I have never seen black bars on the left or right side of a film. The letterboxed versions have them on the top and bottom. Try checking your video player settings or try ripping a single chapter of 16:9 and see if that fixes the problem.

Your using Media Player to watch the movies aren't you?
Don't Media player sucks at playing Mpeg-2 video.
Use something like WinDVD or PowerDVD. Both are much better then Media Player. Media Player is good for a quick check of the video, but it will give you bad resize and A/V sync issues.
Yes I was talking about the 4 ?. Use only one or none. The ? is a special character. I did not issue a strike since it's such a minor thing.

A lot of the time DVDs will have small black bars on the sides which you can see in PowerDVD or WinDVD, check and make sure these werent there originally. Since true 4:3 aspect ratio for NTSC TVs is about 711x486, authors usually keep the right AR and crop the 6 at the top and fill the extra from the sides with black afaik.

if it says letterbox whatever choose 4:3 simple as that.
here's cut and paste from the newbie reference
Aspect ratio It reads the vob files to determine either 4:3 fullscreen or 16:9 widescreen. Usually it's correct but best to verify with amazon.com/dvd or use Preview Video (still picture) to be safe. If it says widescreen letterbox choose 4:3.
-- 4:3 (No borders, encoded as 4:3) choose this if dvd is 4:3, fullscreen, widescreen letterbox, or anamorphic letterbox.
-- 16:9 (borders added, encoded as 4:3) choose this if dvd is widescreen, anamorphic, 16:9, 2:35:1, or 1:85:1.
-- Anamorphic (no borders, encoded as 16:9) this is an advanced settings. Perhaps if you have a widescreen TV you could try it or just editing the .avs file.

I'm not a newbie, (about 20-25 rips with DVD2SVCD)
But I see a new choice in "Aspect Ratio" in v1.09
(I was using old version 1.06 before)
4:3 (no borders, encoded as 4:3)
16:9 (borders added, encoded as 4:3)
Anamorphic (no borders, encoded as 16:9) <--New !
Why select Anamorphic if it's the same result as 4:3?
(I can't see/find differences)
Does a Home DVD player will play it like a real anamorphic
DVD? I mean, if we have a 16:9 TV set, the SVCD will be
played in wide format, and on a 4:3 TV the DVD will ad
black borders?
I'm wrong?
Thank's in advance for answers!

No. You're absolutely right. And it's also explained in the Q&A (Q57) as it gets updated just like our beloved DVD2SVCD. ;)

Option 3: Anamorphic, no borders added, encoded as 16:9. This is the new option on 1.0.8b1. What this does is encode at full vertical resolution but put a marker on the disc just like the original DVD to tell your player that it is 16:9.
Cool, but where is the marker? In the mpeg2 file itself or somewhere
on the disk, I don't use software in DVD2SVCD to burn my mpegs files... I only use DVD2SVCD to make SVCD files, but I want to try
that anamorphic new option...
Thank's for the answer...
